Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

My speech  big_smile  :
I would very much like it if I could have the opportunity to become curator, partly so people could have the pleasure of getting on the front page. And partly because I would probably find it very enjoyable. I find that nearly all projects are unique in their own way. Even the simplest of projects can be fun, or amusing. I would choose projects with a nice theme, good gameplay, and (although not always) good graphics. They don't always need great graphics though, for example the amazing one script variable hangman, (recently curated) didn't have any graphics at all apart from the variables, yet it was extremely fun to play. I intend to choose a variety of games, animations, art, simulation, music, and all the many other project types. I hope you choose a really great curator.  smile

I would like to be a curator, but does it require anything special other than faving your favorite things?

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

@skylukewalker-you should put a little longer speech, like some examples of what you might curate

@ezekielE-there are no specific requirements (that i know of) but maybe a speech?

@blrblr-you should put more than 2 words, like a speech with some examples of what you might curate.

I would post as a curator under-rated games and projects to help scratchers become famous.

When applying to be curator, it's good to give some thought to the kind of projects you'd like to show. "Cool projects that most people have never seen!" is a nice idea, but it doesn't really give us a good sense of what you like and why. We want to know what makes a project interesting to you.

Try viewing the projects in your favorites, and see if you can find a theme that describes them. Talk about that theme in your post, and consider providing a few links to good examples of that theme.

For example, I really like projects that use sound input from the microphone to draw interesting designs on the screen. Here's an example of one that I recently added to my favorites: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/MitFan/874786

Let's not forget this, everyone! Explaining what projects you want to choose helps the Scratch Team pick the curators.  smile

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

If I were curator, I'd curate projects with an obvious amount of hard work put into them, tutorials to help new scratchers, and relatively simple, yet fun projects to show that not every project needs to be complex to be good.

Examples:
Raise a Ribble!
How to Program Two Player Scrollers
MoonMoth
2D Town
Etc.  smile

Hey, is it normal not to get replied in this post or do the scratch team send you a message? Just wondering...

I'm not sure JJmanrulez but i think they send you a message

if they want to pick you, they send you a message asking if you're still interested,(it will show up the same wat as comment replies and such) then you need to send an email letting them know you want to. first you get an auto-reply from a computer, and then later (it could take several days) you get an actual response.

Ok, thanks! XD one more question... How long would it take for you to get the message. Eg. Say, i posted saying i wanted to be a curator, with reasons of course, would they send the message within the next few days or right away. Or could it take even longer. Because, between my last posts, would I have been chosen already so i need to keep trying, or should I just wait?

I think you should maybe choose projects with less views - I don't think it matters to the creators if they get even more. The point of being curator, in my eyes, is to put up projects that will help the viewers and the creator of the project. So, a project with simple, but good, programming made by a fairly new scratcher is good, as it helps the creator get used to scratch quicker, while showing others good programing. A project made by a famous scratcher, will hundreds of views, even if it has amazing programming, might not be so great, as the famous scratcher will hardly notice any more views they get - if they even get any more views - and while others will probably enjoy playing the game, if the project has been on the front page before, there's no need to put it up again, even if it hasn't, tones of views also means a lot of scratch has already seen it.

Wow, that was long.  tongue  Anywho, when I was curator, I had to dig for good but unnoticed projects. Hard, but gets you to be a good curator!  big_smile

@JJmanrulez: I got my message a few months after posting my speech. I posted one speech, then. a while later, posted another, then another while later, reposted that one. I got my message after I totally forgot about being curator way after that, so don't get upset if you don't get a message right away.  smile

Then you should put examples of what you really would curate - that way the Scratch Team knows your prepared.  wink
