You mean "I'd be surprised if they were wrong." Why? It's easier to count something that's happening in the present than to say that something is going to happen in the future, isn't it? The Romans made the calendar that we use today, but would you still trust them if they predicted that the Earth would be destroyed in 2012? Think about it- we know they were/could be wrong. I think the thing is we don't know quite enough about the Mayans to think of them as able to get something wrong. And anyways, they didn't predict that the Earth would be destroyed in 2012, that's only when it ends. It restarts soon afterwards.

Your Nostradamus theory isn't true.
That prediction referred to Chuck Norris.
Jokes aside, I don't believe in 2012 because some small part of my mind believes I'm indestructible. And my religion disallows 2012.

What did I say wrong? I said that people twist prophecies to fit current situations. I never said that they were right.
What religion would that be?

they didn't predict the days, people invented days as a measurement of time XD, just like we invented the metric and imperial systems of measurement.

That's a possibility. The Mayans might have had a different time system than we do.

I was thinking that there might be a terrorist attack of some kind on 12-21-2012, just because everyone will expect something that day, you know? I mean, the Pentagon and Twin Towers were attacked on 9-11, which is the emergency number 9-1-1.
It's just a possibility. What do you think?

No not really. But with our deteriorating national defense system I wouldn't be surprised if we get attacked sometime in the next 3 years.

Okay, guys, if you need any more proof that a disaster won't happen in 2012, I found one more website with some proof.
You can go to the website for explanations, but here is the basic list:
10. Because a reversal of the magnetic poles would not be catastrophic.
9. An increase in sunspot activity in 2012 will not have any particularly detrimental effect on the planet.
8. Because the poles cannot shift or the planet’s orbit be otherwise altered.
7. Because Earth climate change is a gradual process and one easily adapted to.
6. Because the people who suggest the end is coming don’t know what they’re talking about.
5. Because the Bible Code is a parlor trick.
4. Because the Earth isn’t that easy to destroy.
3. Because doomsday prophecies have consistently been proven wrong.
2. Because Nostradamus never picked 2012 as the end date.
1. Because the Mayans never claimed it would.
No new information really, just another source to show proof that disaster won't strike.

About the mayans, they also think that if all the Crystal Skulls are brought to a temple on Dec 21 2012, the event won't happen.
