With the release of software v2.0, and the App Store, I really hoped to see "Scratch" on the store at release, which leads me to ask...
Is anyone currently developing it? It would be a great idea (I think), but I do know it would take a ton of work... but even some kind of beta to get things started would be awesome! Not only would it be very popular considering the current scratch popularity, but it could also be profitable (I'd sell it for FREE or $5 though...) and it would be REALLY cool.
So, if it isn't in the works, that's my suggestion.
PS- it should preferably be a scratch version made FOR iphone/ipod touch, like touch commands, with it's own game sharing and everything, but it COULD just be a companion to the computer version, perhaps with a feature to download scratch files from this site, with the ability to make your own.
PPS- Anyone who has no idea what I'm talking about, like what's 2.0?? etc. please don't bother responding, I mainly want Scratch Team input, but support from other members would be good

That would be awesome if you had an iphone or ipod touch.
Actually what they really should do is get itunes to let them make a scratch app that would allow you to create projects on an ipod classic or nano and sync the project on to your computer for sharing.

The only problem would be limited memory, and hard drive space, so I'm not sure if Scratch and all of its media could make it on the Ipod. Also I'm not sure if the iPod can even run higher end Java.

Hey-
Thanks for your suggestion about Scratch on the iPod/iPhone. Currently we are not working on a version like this, but it is an interesting idea to explore for future releases of Scratch. While we can't always accommodate every request, we try and add features that will help support the whole community.
At this time, we are working on a new version of Scratch to be released at the end of this summer. You will see some new features implemented which we have seen several users asking for in the past.
I encourage you to continue offering your suggestions, as we are always looking for new ways to improve Scratch and new ideas of possible ways to use Scratch.
Thanks for your suggestion, we will consider it for future releases.

Hi mletreat, i am not sure if you have seen my post on a categorization system, but if you want, its lower down on the topics section. As paddle2see said it has been suggested many times, not directly, but as side comments on other suggestions. I think that it would really help people find what they want because of the great amount of growth in Scratch.

i agree with you guys completely.but

and hard drive space
This would be great but as newaregle pointed out you could not save files on the hard disk. Maybe a Scratch file player, with the files downloaded from the Scratch website through Safari?

This is also true.

I agree with this, but you must remember these few things:
1) Scratch was volountarily made, and it was programmed in Squeak, which as far as I know is not (yet) compatible with iPod Touch/iPhone. This would cause the scratch team to program a completely different program with a completely different programming language
2) Scratch is not trying to be successful. It's main goal it to teach beginners the basics of programming, which I think it does quite well on SamSung phones, iMacs, and PCs. I do believe that and iPhone/iPod Touch app would be going "too far".
But don't let these things let you down! Keep on hoping and your dreams will come true!

you could convert it to java, if you had a compiler..... And anyway"Too far"? In scratch there's no such thing

This is definitely the best argument against it.
Hard drive space= not an issue, 16/32 gb models, scratch takes up <500 meg, not to mention I'm asking for a sort of Scratch "Lite"
Processor/memory performance= not an issue, if you don't have an iPhone/Touch you may not have seen some of the incredible games that have been made.
Java= I'm saying make it a native app. It would be new, different from the current scratch, I know it is a HUGE wish, but anyway, it wouldn't be using Java.
Sorry I'm not going into too much detail, it isn't really worth it considering how tough it would be to pull off

That would be nice. I have an iPod Touch. I would like to get an app off of the App store that would let me scratch on my Touch. If you guys made this, would it be free or cost money?

2. A Windows Computer

This is unfortunatly very doubtfull too happen although it would be great. However the scratch team may want to make a app for the ipod touch/iPhone that could run scratch games? (funny how this is the first time i see this and I saw it on my iPod touch :p)

I'm pretty sure Apple will come up with some sort of java device soon. Then it can run Scratch games, but not Scratch itself.

My iPod touch doesn't work with Java. I tried to view some projects on this site and it would not work.

first we need smalltalk on them then early smalltalk-80 then squeak then A CHANCE of scratch!

Well, Squeak could come up with some kind of revolutionary device for iPhone app production... But a fat chance that'll be!

Perhaps it's faster to transfer the fully Squeak-Based Scratch development environment to the iPhone, than waiting for a iPhone-Java-Implementation, that only would be a Scratch-Player. I hope the iPhone has enough memory/performance to work with that. There already seems to be a Squeak-Implementation on the iPhone (not jet in the App-Store, but available for those, who use the iPhone SDK):
http://news.squeak.org/2008/09/11/squeak-on-the-iphone-available-for-download/
As Jens ( http://scratch.mit.edu/users/Jens ) is experimenting much with Scratch/Squeak-Modifications he could be a candidate for implementing that: But I don't know if Jens likes the iPhone :-)
I also think such an iPhone-implementation will not hit the target-group of Scratch directly - kids mostly have no iPhone - but it surely will give Scratch a very big additional "marketing push", that could help much in it's main target fields, because Scratch would get more attention by decision makers and potential sponsors.
IMHO Scratch is the idle SmallApp-Development-Enviroment on the iPhone with it's "drag-And-Drop" programming style: It would be the first one direct on the iPhone...and everybody could use it, not only Hardcore-Programmers. So Scratch would get the attention of a high percentage of the fast growing group of iPhone users, and many of them are Teckis, VIPs and decision makers!
Who wants to write Scratch-History and implement Scratch on the iPhone?
