If you are sure that someone has already flagged / reported something, then there's no need to do it again. What I was saying was, it will be less flags if you don't respond to the mean comment. Like:
A: mean comment
B: mean reply
C: flags A & B
That has two flags. but:
A: mean comment
B: flag
is only one flag.
less flags, less mod work. all i was saying.
Ah yes - now I understand. You're quite right!

Yep, in that case, you're right.

When I get regular bland dumb spam on mine I just delete it. I'll let someone else tell them about their arrogance.

I replied to a mean comment. Oops. Oh well I will not do it again.

It has come to my attention that there is something a lot of Scratchers do not understand well and I am wondering how to explain.
A lot of people thing that it is OK to respond to attacks with more attacks or with threats. This is not acceptable and I would like you to help us spread this message.
Here is a fictional example:
Person A: "Your project sucks."
Person B: "You suck more. I hate you! I am going to flag you and get you banned."
Who is right? A or B? Well, the right answer is neither of them!
We all know that what person A did is against the Scratch Terms of Use. We do take those comments seriously and typically block accounts that post that kind of disrespectful messages.
However, it seems to me that a lot of people think that what Person B responded is fine because she or he "did not started" or because she or he is "just responding". Well, this is not OK and we often block Person B's account as well.
You are encouraged to flag and report inappropriate content but there is no need to tell people that you are doing it because it only creates more conflicts.
It is not OK to respond to attacks with more attacks.
Please help us spread the word that:
a) Disrespectful comments are not OK
b) Responding to disrespectful comments is also not OK.
c) People should flag disrespectful or inappropriate content, contact the Scratch Team and then ignore it. Do not respond to it publicly because this only creates a cycle of attacks.
If you have suggestions on how to improve this or any other ideas about this, please let us know.
Thanks and Scratch On!
it happened to me today!
person: your stealing! i want noeone to look at your projects
do i deleted it

Yeah, you have a point. But I have a way of dealing with trolls: reply to them, but just say 'Hey! Thanks! I'm glad you love my project!'. It worked for me - it doesn't seem rude, just taking the mickey a little bit, in a non-offensive way, if you know what I mean.

I have a question. if someone says that a project stinks or soething like that, is it ok to tell them about a cool feature in the project they may have not noticed or something like that?
i think so.
the title really meant Replying disrespectfully to disrespectful comments is not OK
if its your project, you can just delete/flag it.

Actually, don't delete it. Only flag it, because flagging automatically deletes it and let's the scratch team know the person was disrespectful.

Thanks a lot Andres! Although I was wondering, is it ok to respond in a nice way? If someone has already asked this, thanks anyway!

If I just had to respond, I'd rather try to carm down the user in a nice way than attacking back.

Will C flag both A and B or just A?

Probably just A, though I think B should have flagged.

I'm so nice to people they can't help being nice back.

Yeah, I've seen that happen before, never to me, but I'm fully aware of this. Unfortunatly.

I'd wait for a mod or admin to answer your question, as they would be more familiar with this stuff then New Scratchers.

ok. so we shouldn't even reply "please don't be mean." and then flag it? that's pretty much what i do...
well, "please don't be mean" isn't really a disrespectful reply but it would be pointless to do that. if you flag right after you reply, nobody can see the comment or the replies anymore unless of the very low chance of the scratch team restoring the comment. the scratcher u reply to WILL get a message that they have been replied but they won't be able to read it because the replied comment was flagged.

If it's really rude, I think you should flag, but if it's just "bleh" say something like what lilacfuzz101 said, or what I sometimes do, "why?".

Usually stuff like that always leads to a catastrophe.

I second. This is a very catchy slogan.
