Typing Blocks in the Forums

There is now a new and improved way of adding blocks to the forums.

Under the textbox where you are typing, click the category that you want, then click the block that you want. This will add the block to your forum post. To add numbers to your block, just add them in the open spaces inside of the block.

[blocks]
<when green flag clicked>
<switch to costume[ smile
<think[ This should be much easier
<say[ Scratch On!!! ]for( 5 )secs>
[/blocks]

meh...great concept, and an amazing piece of work for the first effort, but a little bit of fine tuning would push this over the top.  Nonetheless, thank you very much, I know that this will be helpful to many many people.  (FYI - not trying to bash, especially since it took me awhile to figure it out, but it's a little complex at the moment for easy use.)

Hello Scratchers!  Please check out my "Invisible Children" project.  I created it to raise awareness about the children in Uganda, Africa.  The film "Invisible Children" is very moving, yet inspiring.  I hope that I can inform as many people as I can about The crisis in Uganda.  Thank you  smile   Here is the link http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/plumberry/135831

Your hard work is very much apprecaiated!

Many message boards actually have their large range of smileys selectable from a pop-up menu, and it would be another step forawrd if the scratch blocks could be put into the forums in the same way  big_smile

he he, that's what I was trying to get at, but I think it sounded like I was bashing, but oh well, some sort of drop down would indeed be very nice.

Re: Typing Blocks in the Forums

Hey paulmedwal...not sure if you're working on it already, but is there any way to add this feature to the signatures?  I think that would be a really cool addition.

Re: Typing Blocks in the Forums

Two notes:

First, the blocks have been temporarily disabled. They were causing problems in IE and would not allow users to submit post at all. I'm currently working on that problem.

Second, soccrplyer4life13, blocks will not be in the signatures. For some reason (I'm not sure what the reason was), there was a decision to not allow images to be in the signatures. Since blocks are images, I'm not going to add them to the signatures, unless the Scratch Team decides to allow pictures in the signatures.

Re: Typing Blocks in the Forums

Ahhhh, sounds good, it was just something that I had noticed, but it'd only be more of an aesthetic thing in the signature anyway.  Thank you again for all the work you've been putting into this, as it will be extremely beneficial in the sharing of ideas and helping other members.  One last thing that I'm sure has been looked at, but what about standardizing the size of the images, so that they end up being a bit more lined up naturally.  Again, just aesthetics, but another nifty touch to possibly work with...If I can be of any help, let me know.

Re: Typing Blocks in the Forums

As a mini-update...I fixed the IE problem, so you should be able to submit posts. As you can also tell, there are more colorful buttons for each of the categories. Lastly, the pages should load a bit faster than they did yesterday, because the pictures of the blocks will now only load after you click one of the category buttons below.

Mini to-do list...
1. Fix the bolding problem (if you don't add the [blocks ] and [/blocks ] tag, then all the text you add after blocks becomes bold).

2. Add the "end" of blocks. For blocks like "point in direction", currently the block doesn't end. I'll add the blocks to do this.

3. Create line breaks after adding blocks so you can add multiple blocks by clicking without having to press enter.

soccrplyer4life13, standardizing the size of the images is a lot of work...There are about 100 Scratch blocks, and each of those needs to be broken up, edited, uploaded, and inserted in the code...I don't think I will be doing this soon, but eventually it may be fixed.
[blocks]
<when green flag clicked>
<repeat until> <( <{ blocks }> <=> easy )>
<say[ Not quite finished, but I'm getting there
<end>
[/blocks]

Re: Typing Blocks in the Forums

You should put blocks as a link next to smilies again... and then use that as a toggle for the block selection panel.
