don't worry guys, I have an engine worked out that works. i'm just working out the kinks. I think the first multiplayer online game is just gonna be a chat engine, but still that's a first. comment on it when it comes out to give me ideas for an MMO!

(everyone) Mesh is the only way to go, use MathWizz's tutorial and Martianshark's tutorial.
However, I'm used to BYOB-era meshing. Anyone here able to open Scratch in 2 windows?
(AmoebaMan) Cool! Like to see your engine.

Heres a tip for those connecting to their own computer with mesh. When you join a host instead of entering an IP address, just type in "localhost" without the quotes.

Cool! No more memorizing boooooorrrrriiiiiinnnnnnggggg numbers.

You still have to know the booooorrrriiiinnngggg numbers if you want to connect to a remote computer. But just typing localhost on your own system is pretty convenient.

I tried it with magnie, but his secruity setings or my firewall was blocking it. So i ended up just playing on my own.

Can you activate it in the Full version 1.4?
I did it! This project shows you how! http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/MathWizz/849173
Kinda a bit of hacking there, and also... if you want to connect with some, you need to get them to do that aswell, then put in the IP adress of the host cmputer/server.
But still awesome, nice work finding that.
but you would have to have a pc switched on permamently to act as a server...

Uh... that barely makes any sense. Scratchconnections is a website set up to share projects which are advanced and use third-party programs/programming languages, to create better projects, python is such an example, but is very confusing to look at.

Online isn't nearly as important as sprite duplication. Most people can barly make a local multiplayer game and making an online multiplayer game would probably be too hard for 99% of scratch users.
I made one, but apparently I need some sort of hamachi? Don't know what that is. You don't need sprite duplication if you have only two people, you could engineer it in a very complex way.

Hamachi creates a secure connection between two PC's.

There are some games that are already like that, in which two people use the same keyboard, and each player use different key command (example: player1 uses the arrow keys, and player2 uses keyboard keys 'W''A''S''D'), and this concept can always be extended to more than one player. Of course, perhaps you had a different idea in mind when you are referring to 'multiplayer game'?
I think he meant you would be on one computer, and your friend could be on another and if you both were on the same project, you could talk to them and see eachother playing live. :

Possible, but not with this Scratch. Anyway progaming a game with character movments, sounds, and some other stuff like Runescape, Club Penquin, or Nickclub would be very hard, unless you have a game making type thing like they use on AddictingGames.com.I can barely make a game on scratch, it's just for simple programming.

If you all manage to get sprite duplication, I have a mesh chat project thats for unlimited players. It might be possible, in conjunction with a "create new variable" block, you could build a mmo with my Unlimited Player chat project.

well sounds interesting, before reading this topic i got an idia for two players at two computers in the same room connected via audio cable just using scratch (not in online mode) if you're interested i could create a demo project...

well i like the idea but every one would have to make new acounts on a new multiplayer website that might have a little problem unless we get to send over our acounts
we could use new varibles also
