How long does it take to get 'Scratcher' status?

Depends on your level of activity. If you only post 5-10 times in 5 months, you'll probably remain a New Scratcher for a while.

i make a lot of projects and comments, but i'm hardly ever on the forums. is there a time limit when people lose their new scratcher status because they've been registered for a long time?

It isn't so much of a time limit as it is activity. Basically, New Scratchers turn into Scratchers more quickly if they're active on both the forums and the main site.

recently, i saw someone with scratcher status who only had 8 posts, but had been on scratch for a few years. i have 11 and am still new. they must have gotten from just being registered for that long.

I had an exploratory account for a few years but only had one post on the forums. I went back on it and checked recently and now it's ranked Scratcher.

THAT'S what i mean.
[blocks]<if>[/blocks] I didn't go on the forums for 1 whole year,
then came back, I bet I would be a scratcher
right?

this gets very annoying! This is possibly the most asked question on Scratch. Could the scratch team maybe do something about this. Maybe, like in advanced topics, make a sticky of important topics which will include stuff like this!
Maybe sticky of common topics or something

Unfortunately, no. Before the Scratch Team decided to implement the 'New Scratcher' status, everyone used to be labeled as a 'Scratcher', regardless of activity. When the 'New Scratcher' status was implemented, the old, unused accounts were still labeled as 'Scratcher'; so only those signing up after the rule was implemented were affected by the new rules - that is why you may see some old, barely used accounts that have the label as 'Scratcher'.
