It does look old. When you say image, do you mean you found that actual image, or is that a screenshot of a Squeak image file you found?

That looks like terrible use of the fill bucket in paint.

Like just taking a screenshot of Scratch 1.4 and using the paint bucket on it? It's definitely not that.

I must admit that doesn't look nearly as appealing as today's version of Scratch  smile

I don't understand - did you find a .image file, or did you find a graphical image?

Graphical, not Squeak .IMAGE. I'd be interested in the .IMAGE and .CHANGES files for it, though.

That would be interesting! I'd like to see some pre-1.0 versions of Scratch, and delve straight into the history of them.  smile

Search Google images for this: squeak smalltalk
It should be on page one. If it's not, look on page two of three.

That image dates back to May 9th 2005... was Scratch really in development for that long? If so, that's an amazing find. also, 2000th post

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

That's only about two years- I think I saw such an image a while ago, too, I just didn't think much of it.  smile

Re: Was this an old version of Scratch? I just found this image...

I have noticed a few things.
1. The blocks are extremely different. (e.g. "when go shouted")
2. The tabs are "Programs" and "Costumes".
3. The stage was listed as a sprite!
4. The block categories are totally different. ("Motion", "Looks", "Media", "Scripts", "Control", "1-2-3", "Sensing", "Variables")
5. It shows the number of scripts for each sprite on the sprite list.
6. The paint button is at the top of the screen.

This seems like a pretty old version!

I found another image!

Sorry it's kind of crude, I had to take a screenshot from a PDF file.  But it's still that version!

And another!

Another screenshot from a PDF, but now it's much more clear!
This image is a screenshot from the .image from March 16, 2004!  It says it in the PDF.

Re: Was this an old version of Scratch? I just found this image...

This is awesome! I like looking at older versions of scratch and this is a really good find.
It's amazing they have been working on scratch for 6 years yet it only became popular in the past 2 years.

It is a pretty bad version though.

From here.  Scroll down to "papers" and you will find some PDFs with old Scratch pictures.  There are a lot more images, I just took the important ones.
