You can upload your project to this site and send the address to others.
To upload your project just click on the Share button, fill out the information. Once you click on OK the project will be uploaded to this website. You can then go to the My Stuff section on this website and you will see your project there. You can send the URL of the project to your friends for them to see.

Hi adityasm999,
there is currently no way and no plans to distribute Scratch projects as stand alone executables. Instead you can share you Scratch projects together with the Scratch application or the Scratch java applet, or over the web using the embed options or on portable media.
There are some independent efforts by members trying to bundle a java player together with Scratch projects into single distributable and executable files, but I haven't seen any of these yet.
Some members of the Scratch team are apparently also working on a special Scratch version letting you export Scratch scripts to LindenScript to be used in Second Life, but again, I haven't seen this myself yet.

What is the next language, as easy to use as Scratch that will enable the creation of stand alone applications? Thank you for your help and advice.
hmmm...are you looking for other programming languages?
Try one of these:
Java
Alice
Panda
C
C++
Flash

Go with the 30 day trial of Flash- it's fun and using Scratch helps a lot (at least for me). I know basically all the commands (not really, only the basic ones like if (Key.isDown) etc) because of Scratch. Though now you actually have to type it out
