I think scratch should have a messaging system so you can contact people without the whole scratch community seeing. Like if you wanted to work together with someone you could just pm them. I think this would be a great improvement to the website. Please share your thoughts.

The only problem would be people telling you innapropriate things, and the Scratch Team wouldnt have anything to stop people unless they made a filter that worked correctly (no offense but it is easily tricked.)

The Scratch team probably won't ever implement private messaging. It is impossible to control messages - how about insults and other inappropriate things? Maybe this (http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=8252) could solve some problems...

We prefer to keep messages visible (and not private) to allow everyone access to all knowledge that is shared on this site

Yea i understand but what if you just need a specific scratcher for an interview for, let's say, a scratch virtual magazine and you don't want anyone interupting your interview. That's when the PM comes in!

Some parents would not like their children using a website with private messaging as it can be used for the wrong reasons. it would be very bad if some people were not allowed to use scratch because of that feature. It may be useful occasionally but its not entirely necassary. you could just create a gallery. galleries with no projects in are not visible to everyone i dont think so you could have a relatively private discussion in a gallery people dont know about.

It's a nice idea and I think it should still go ahead but If their was some form of report button to stop inapropriate use of language that would alert the scratch team or a mod then things would be alot safer and more enjoyable.

Yes that would be a big concern. However they could allow it to be turned off so that all age groups could still use the scratch website freely.
