That's not true. Iizuka confirmed he was a boy since the beginning.

The Wii version and DS version of Sonic Colors are different. The Wii version only has Sonic n Tails while the DS version has: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, Silver, Big, Cream
