Multi-player Online

Scratch should make a new kind of block: Multi-player. When posted, people can see other people on the project. For instance, a Multiplayer Online RPG. No log-ons or anything special needed. Let's say someone <say[ Hello! ]for( 3 )secs> and others can see that. Wouldn't that just be great?  smile

Re: Multi-player Online

This has been suggested a remarkable amount in the past. Here's my standard reply:

Yep, this idea has been suggested a LOT - too many times for my liking. For now, you can use Mesh, which is hidden in Scratch and not officially supported - and of course, only works offline. You can learn about Mesh in this thread, but be warned, it's not for the average user. I think that was one of the reasons it wasn't included in the official release of Scratch 1.4 - and also that it would take up a fair bit of the servers' time and energy. I support, but I think the ideas need to be smoothed out a little so that there can be as few difficulties while programming with online capabilities and having the capabilities run as possible.

So there you have it.

I think there should be a block called "Universal Transmit" that transmits certain things, like typed messages or emotes, or postion of you character to other players, who will be able to see it.  However, there would have to be a typed message moderation, so it should be kept at just position, or actions.

That's exactly what Mesh does.
