Nice! I think my grandpa was in Korea, but I'll have to ask my dad about that.

an old guy at our church fought in Korea. It's interesting what kind of people you can bump into. On my vacation my dad and I were in the pool at our campground when this old guy showed up, and my dad talked with him about whatever for a while. Then as we were leaving my dad noticed the guys legs were kinda weird. My dad asked him about it, and apparently he fought in Vietnam, and the NVA pulled his legs off. My stopped there because the guy obviously didn't want to talk about it.

Yeah, I don't think I'd want to talk about it either. They probably tortured him or something.

It's an American holiday that celebrates the service of the men (and women) who fought in foreign wars. It's similar to Memorial day.

Re: Happy Veteran's Day!

in Canada (and all around the world from my memory) we have something today called remembrance day where we honor the veterans who fought for our country as well as the ones who are still fighting!  is that pretty much the same thing as veterans day?

remembrance day has been going on since right after world war 1, back when our military was actually considered a forced to be reckoned with and we lost so many soldiers during the war.  at 11:00 i took two minutes of silence to remember all of the soldiers who died for our freedom.

Re: Happy Veteran's Day!

We had a two minute silence today in my class.

We call it "Remembrance Day" here, and we wear poppies.

Im thinking of joining the British Army when I'm older.  smile

in America we call it Memorial Day  smile  Veterans Day is mostly the same, but I guess those who fought can't get enough tribute.

OK, I just found out that my grandpa actually served in World War II in the Pacific towards the end of the war. Still pretty cool though.

Re: Happy Veteran's Day!

Oh, I forgot. I have a neighbor who was in the 75th Ranger Division, and he survived the battle of Mogadishu (the one from Black Hawk Down). He says he was in the streets for 19 hours before they pulled out. It also happens his father was in the 82nd Airborne, and landed in Normandy on D-Day. In fact, if you've seen the old movie The Longest Day, there's a part where F company lands right in the middle of the town St Mere Eglise, and this guy gets hung up on a bell tower, and a bunch of other guys go into point blank fighting with the Germans. My neighbors father was in that same company, and I think he survived.  smile
