A bit of housecleaning... (Removal of the archived forums)

Many of you may have already noticed the disappearance of the archived forums.  Some mods and Scratch Team felt the forums have gotten a bit cluttered, so we thought we'd try making the archives invisible for a bit and see how things go.

Is this a good change? A bad change? Let us know what you think!

Re: A bit of housecleaning... (Removal of the archived forums)

It's a decent change
We didn't really need the archived forums, but they were fun to read through when you're bored
And we kind of needed the archived TBG forum.. People on the TBGs liked to use it for ideas, and New Scratchers won't even know we have a TBG site if the main forum doesn't say anything about it anywhere, if you know what I mean

So they are invisible at the moment? I like the change, but can the archives still be accessed?

Re: A bit of housecleaning... (Removal of the archived forums)

As much as I'll miss those forums, I think it was a good change; for the benefit of the server and new users. Besides, there was no use in them, seeing as we have the TBG Forums instead of the old one, the Scratch Days were over, there is an entire forum about Inspiration and More, and we have a whole site for Scratch in classrooms.

I think that this was an overall good decision; thanks Scratch Team!  smile

Nope, not the way it is set up now.  hmm

I think the question this raises is: does the benefit of having that information available outweigh the cost of the clutter?

Thanks, and glad you like it! It's not really a final decision yet though. I just thought we'd try it out and see how it goes.

Re: A bit of housecleaning... (Removal of the archived forums)

It's helpful for New Scratchers, who could get confused about why they can't post in the archived forums. It was fun to read through the old threads, but things have got to change sometime, I guess.  hmm

I did also.
I first noticed it was gone last week, I think, after my link to a topic in the archives stopped working.

Re: A bit of housecleaning... (Removal of the archived forums)

Oh yeah, I thought something was missing.  lol
If we try to access topics from the old forums from our "Show Your Posts" page, will we get a 404 or something?
Edit: Oh never mind, I see they were deleted from there as well.

Misc is not an archived forum.

And I'm against this change. It's quite fun to look back and see what ye olde Scratcher was like.  tongue
