Ubuntu Online is a project that I recently started working on, and I need help with it. If you would like to help me, you would probably want an Ubuntu 10.10 VM, GIMP, and a (part of) screen capture tool. If you have a better image for something, upload it to TinyPic (make sure that you have the correct height and width of the image. add transparency if needed) and then copy and paste the BBCode here. If you have a bug fix, tell me how to fix it. If you have an optimization, tell me. If you have anything else (
), give me the info that's needed about it. The page itself is written in XHTML 1.0 (basically a kind of stricter version of HTML 4.01), along with CSS (v2.1), JavaScript, and jQuery (JavaScript library). If you want the source of the page, just go to View -> Page Source. The website that the page is hosted on is sometimes down. Firefox 3.6.12 for Windows displays the page most correctly. There can be an unlimited amount of helpers. You might want to download and install the Ubuntu font family for the site to look better.

I saw the Ubuntu online thing, it looked pretty cool! I don't have time to help though.

There's no deadline for this. Even if it takes you weeks because you don't have time, your help is appreciated.

For anyone that's interested in the project: please help me with the context menu (right-click the background)

I'm totally in. I have no knowlage of those languages, but I used ubuntu for around a year and can re learn HTML pretty quick. Perhaps we could try another is after we finish this one? Just to give potential Linux converts a glimpse of KDE too.

Okay. Your in for the actual HTML! This means that you can give code for parts of new items or updated HTML code for already-coded parts of Ubuntu Online. Once Ubuntu Online is finished or is mostly done, we could start Slackware Online because it uses KDE instead of GNOME. Good idea.

Ok. I'll get to work relearning HTML. I can also provide help on any info about Linux that is needed. What exactly would be done in HTML? Just the overall interface or a specific program?
After the overall UI is done, we will start work on the programs.

How long'll you be on for? I could take a while.
Monday Through Friday: 10-15 minutes in the morning. After school, I'm on until 9:00 CST.
Weekend: Usually past midnight
It's okay if you work while I'm online.

Is there anywhere I can see the effects of any edits I may make? I was mssing around with the source, but of course couldn't tell what effect I had had. Also, what hosting do you have for the site?
1. I'm looking for a way for you to see the effect.
2. http://oos.cc/
Because you're online right now, if you have an e-mail address, tell me it in a forum post. As soon as I see it, I'll tell you. After you see that, delete the post with the e-mail. I'll send you an e-mail with the username, password, and what to do to edit the site.
Wait a minute, you just got off. When you and I are online at the same time, do it.

Looking at the javascript files, I'm really glad I didn't volunteer to do that.
The jquery-1.4.3.js and jquery.contextmenu.js files are the jQuery library and a jQuery plugin that makes the context menu. The actual JavaScript for the page was inside the HTML file.

Any way to space the menu out better? No matter what I try it still seems to be squished.
I don't know

Hay. Why don't you create a program in C#, C++ or VB.net which is just a borderless form in full screen mode. (This hides the taskbar) and it navigates to that web page. On the webpage you can create a virual browser (ie. split the page into two websites) and use buttons on one page to control the other.

I might do that (the first thing)
