So this is what happened.
I for whatever reason set windows to open .sb files with Scratch.
Terrible idea.
Once I opened the file, Scratch said to look for the image file (?), so I went to C:\Program Files\Scratch\ and found the scratch image file there. However, the file did not load up, instead a cat appeared and my game was not there. Now, when I try to make a remix of a game, it brings up scratch looking for an image file.
How can I fix this?

That's a common problem... I'm not really sure what causes it.
Instead of trying to open the file directly from the folder, open Scratch and press ctrl+O (or go to File > Open...) and navigate to the project from there.
One other thing you can try is to open Scratch and drag the project into the Scratch window. I'm not sure if this works on all systems, but try it out and see.

Try setting Windows to no longer associate .sb files with Scratch. To do this, open up a window in Windows Explorer. (My Documents will do) Go to Tools > Folder Options > File Types. Under Registered File Types (it'll take awhile to load all the files; give it a minute.) Scroll down to the SB file extension, and click Delete. That'll remove the association.

This is the oldest problem in the book. You must have dragged Scratch.exe out of the Scratch folder. You can't do that, because Scratch.exe has to be in the same directory as Scratch.image to work properly.

I never did that. Read the OP again.
