Make sure you are checking your email and your messages. i got a message saying something like "are you still interested in being curator? if so, contact us...blah blah blah" something like that.  tongue  so you have to make sure you check your messages often.

also, for everyone who expects to be chosen one week and be curator the next, you're going to have to be more patient than that; i got a message about it like, 2 weeks after i made my speech, then i emailed them about it and had to wait like 3 days to get a reply, then when they replied, it said i was going to be a curator in early november, i got that message in mid september. so you are going to have to wait a while if you get picked, trust me.  tongue

I applied in mid-July. I got notified about it in late September, and became curator in October.
So yeah, it might take a while.  tongue

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I would love to be a curator. I am extremely interested and astounded at how Scratch brings out the creativity within us all. It allows everyone to have a lot of fun while problem solving and thinking outside the box. If I were a curator I would choose projects that show lots of creativity and effort. Thanks!

You should put in some examples, and have a specific topic (art, music, animations, etc...) looking at popular tags might help with that. and have a link or two to projects you'd plan on curating, to give the scratch team an idea.  smile

Try viewing the projects in your favorites, and see if you can find a theme that describes them. Talk about that theme in your post, and consider providing a few links to good examples of that theme.

For example, I really like projects that use sound input from the microphone to draw interesting designs on the screen. Here's an example of one that I recently added to my favorites: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/MitFan/874786

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

Here is another try (to get the message out  big_smile  ) on proposing to be a curator:

I would like to become a curator because:

1. I would pick projects of all types, music, platformer, animations, art, simulations, and all other general games.

2. I know A LOT of Unknown project creators (just look at my friends list) and I see several new projects each day.

3. I would search through the 'Show and Tell' Article on the Scratch Forums. I would also make a project called 'propose your best projects here' so scratchers can link their and other people's projects for me to explore.

4. With these 2 resources for projects, I will plan to add a new project every twelve hours, giving the picked project about 36 hours on the front page and give it a healthy boost of 300 views.

5. I have been on the scratch website about a year now and I have a good taste of projects ( not just os's  big_smile  ), and will also take into account how many good and deserving projects they have made which shows that they are a good scratcher.

6. I will only pick projects that have less than 100 views, and that have less than 20 love-its. I will however pick projects that are in a series and the predecessor has been curated before. I have seen A LOT of good projects and I knew how I felt when I first published my first OS. (Thanks LS97  big_smile )

7. I will favour and more likely curate projects that run well online (or at least run well online), and make sure that there is no offensive material in them (that's for you, kids), and that they will be exciting to all audiences (not 'Barbie Dress-Up).

8. I will be fair and give each project the same chance (unless it falls into the previous paragraph), regardless who made it. I will not however curate projects where the creator will likely to be mean to his commenters or just not say anything to them.

Those are some of the reasons why I think I should be a curator.

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I would like to tell you some things about me: I am 8 years old.  I’ve been programming since I was 5.  This year I’ve been programming a lot and WELL.  I produce at least one new game every week on the website.  This is why I think I would be a good curator.  Not just I’m experienced, but I will pick the kind of project that you would have never known could have been possibly made on scratch.  For instance,

Kablock: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/the_guardian/266658

You see how when there’s more than three same-colored blocks touching each other they vanish?  Now I’ve got two questions about that: How do the blocks sense if they’re touching more than one of their own color?  How does it decide which blocks should vanish?

And, I think I would be a good curator because these projects are really cool projects that I think the community would like.

To be honest everyone should REALLY read emilypie's posts. Nearly all posts say:
'I would like to be a curator.
I would create good and exciting projects!
The End.'

The scratch team are never going to pick you if you don't give more detail.

No offense roadrunner44  smile

Just look at my post on becoming a curator.

So please, don't say 'I want to be a curator because I know some cool projects ,OK, thanks, goodbye.'

Hope this helps emilypie and other scratchers.

smile

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

If you saw mine, It was several paragraphs long. Not several words.
"sign me up fo it!"
or
"cool ill do it"
or
"i want to do it"

Remember, being curator is a privilege, not a job. You don't HAVE to do it, you should WANT to do it. I wrote a whole lot, and I was chosen. Doesn't mean you have to write a lot, but it means you have to make it mean something. You should do it several times, just not with too small intervals. Every 7 pages is good...

I don't think it matters how long it is; mine wasn't too long, and i'm gonna be curator in 2 days. here are the things I think up your chances of getting picked:
-Examples- Putting in 1 or 2 examples of what you will curate lets the scratch team get an idea of your taste.
-Choose a Topic!- You have to choose 1 or 2 topics for the kind of projects you will be curating. I chose 'mostly pen games and animations' but of course, you don't have to make EVERY project you curate stick to your theme, just most of them. But, unfortunately, most of my planned projects to curate were deleted, so i had to make a new theme, 'a different topic every 2 days!' which I guess if alright, too. As long as you have some sort of theme or topic you would like to curate.
-When will you, or how many projects will you curate? You need a plan for WHEN you will curate projects. The scratch team wants to know you'll make it fair, and that you won't curate so little each one gets 2 weeks on the front page, or so many that each one gets 2 minutes on the front page! And that you don't curate one for 1 day, and another for 3 days. I said that every 2 days, I would curate 3 new projects.

So, it really doesn't matter the length, just follow these points, and you will be curator in no time!  big_smile
