Java problem

There's already alot been said about Java, but I think it may be a new one.
I run Windows XP and my old version 5 Java was working fine with Scratch. Someone talked me into updating Java and I ended up with version 6.
I discovered that this one does not work so good with Scratch. Now I'm trying to get the old one back. The Java website is not very helpful. They don't seem to support old versions.

Re: Java problem

OK, I think I found something that works.
I found a version called jre 1_5_0_22 and installed it.
Then I went to the windows control panel and in the Java Console I disabled version
jre 6u22
Now I think it works.

Re: Java problem

It gets even stranger, the more I tinker. Java has another animal called jdk-6u22.
I needed to install this one to play with something called "greenfoot". Now my computer is again updated to the latest Java, but this time Scratch works just fine with version 6.
It's possible that Scratch is using a file from version 5 that is still installed, or does the Jre version have a real bug? Who knows. Learning Java is about as easy as learning Chinese.

I have compared the two versions.
jre-6u22 contains 86.5 Mega Bytes.
JDK 1.6.0_22 contains a jre folder of size 96.0 Mega-Bytes. This is clearly 10 more MB of data that the first version does not have. Scratch seems to need the full version to operate correctly.
