How many of you can solve this riddle?

This is a riddle I heard and I thought it was great.

This isn't a TBG, because I'm not posting another one after this.

Then we can have a discussion on how you got your answer.

An executioner walked into a dim room. A man sat on the far side of the room, tied to a chair. The executioner held a mace and a sword. He said to the man;
"I'm tired of killing people today, so I will give you a deal. You will make a statement. If the statement is true, I shall bash your head in. If the answer is false, I will cut off your head. If you can somehow trick me, I shall let you walk away unharmed."
"Okay." Said the man.
"Now make your statement."
The man replied with an answer and walked out with his life.

What did the man say?

Isn't it like "This is a lie" or something

No.

Well, that would work, but I'm looking for a different answer.

Re: How many of you can solve this riddle?

Okay.  tongue

This is what scientists call a paradox, where something causes something else to make an eternal chain of results.

In this case, the man said he would get his head chopped off. Now, if the executioner chopped off the man's head, then it would be a true statement. So the man would be telling a lie, which means the executioner would have to chop off his head.

And so on and so forth.  smile

Re: How many of you can solve this riddle?

"you will kill me" or something like that, because if he does kill him, it would be true, but if he didn't it would be false.
I like zeno's paradox: If a projectile keeps moving halfway to a target, and repeats halfway to the target forever, it will never hit the target.  big_smile

Re: How many of you can solve this riddle?

"You will chop my head off."
Not as impressive when others have already said the answer, but yeah.

To keep this topic alive, here's another riddle:

Alive without breath,
As cold as death,
Never thirsting,
Ever drinking,
Clad in mail,
Never clinking
.

What am I?

Fire is the obvious choice, but I don't think that's it...

I don't want this to turn into a TBG though...

Oh whoops, this may make it a TBG.  Should I delete my riddle?

Well, anyways, fire can be cold, since it's actually the air around the fire that's hot.

Here's my riddle.

You are in a room with no escape.
There is a mirror on a table.
How will you escape?

Here's another:

Fire and ice.
Wind and water.
Snow and sleet.
Hail and flames.
What am I?

BTW, this is not a TBG. This is just something to pass the time, not a game.

Well, anyways, fire can be cold, since it's actually the air around the fire that's hot.

Wouldn't that make fire have no technical temperature?  Anyways in a riddle you wouldn't refer to fire as cold, no matter what its true temperature.

Re: How many of you can solve this riddle?

Alive without breath, as cold as death, never thirsting, ever drinking sounds like a under water animal.

EDIT: It's a fish of some kind, I guess.
SECOND EDIT: But if I'm right, how does fish mean never clinking and clads in mail?
