Hacking a pokemon game
I've seen games of pokemon with fakemon in it. How do you hack the game? What tools do you need? Does it work? I'm wanting to get a used copy of Pokemon Ruby and Hack it. I need to know this first.

Well, your looking at messing around with downloading things, playing around with some windows files (just adding some), and some other stuff. If your good with that, go to "Whack a Hack!", a great place for all the editors that you need. UNlz.GBA is what you need to change the sprites. AdvanceMap to edit the overworld, and to make custom scripts you need to look around for XSE (if you want to code in strait Rubicon). You also need a copy of FSF, for your dynamic offsets in your custom scripts. I would suggest using LeafGreen or FireRed as a base, as it seems to be more supported.

You can't use a gba cartridge, you need to download a rom. And ruby is probably as supported as fr, but lg is WAY less supported. And rom hacking is borderline illegal, people disagree on the matter. And if you download those programs from pokecommunity they are virus free.

It isn't illegal to "customize" one. It is, however, if you give it away without patching it first (.gba to <filetype not known atm>). All hacks are issued in a different format than .gba, and require another program to read them, then an emulator to play them.
NOTE: I might be wrong in this. I do know that they aren't given away in .gba format though.

Yes. But, you need to own the game you are downloading. I own Metroid: Fusion (just beat again, for the 10th time btw), so I can have a copy on my computer.

In reality, all the ROM's are free. You just need the actual, physical cartridge to be able to legally have it on your computer.

OK, I am still needing permission to get those programs. I am thinking about making another Copy of Orange and Purple using the ROMs.

I have always heard that roms are illegal regardless. Either way, you wont get in trouble if you distribute it in a different format.
Edit: I'll help you on the ROM if you make one, so all you will really need is ase and yape.
