Logging Off...

I know you all have probably heard of this problem before, so if you can't say anything nice, or helpful, please leave now.

Whenever I leave my account idle for a while, and I switch to a different project, user, home, and so on, (as long as I'm still on the Scratch website) It logs me off! But when I stay idle on the page, for something like, watching an animation through and through, making another project while taking small breaks on the Scratch community, whatever I'm doing, if I were to leave a comment, or reply, it just disappears. I'm logged off, but because I'm on the same page, it appears as though I'm logged in. (It still say "Welcome, henley | Logout" at the top) This is terribly annoying for me, because I have a long password, and I usually put a lot of thought and text into my comments, forum posts, replies, etc.

This is getting to a paranoid point, so that before I post anything, I have to copy it. Then if Scratch logs me out again, I can come back to where I was posting, and paste it. Even though I can do that, it's still annoying to have to remember to copy it, log back in, and re-post it.

I know, I know, You're probably thinking, "Why the heck would you go to all the trouble of making this post if the answer is in another thread" or "You should really go research some of the other threads before posting one like this". Well, I did look around. All of the threads I found were either unanswered, or didn't work for me. I am using a Snow Leopard MacMini, and running Safari 5.0.2.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? I've been trying to ignore it for the past 5-6 months.

This forum post is actually one of the "disappearing posts" that I had to rewrite.

Re: Logging Off...

Yeah, that happened quite often for me when I first joined. It's such a recurring glitch...

There aren't really any solutions for it, either. I don't know how I solved it, but for whatever reason it stopped happening. Have you tried switching to a different browser?

Re: Logging Off...

Hi Henley - sorry you are having trouble.  sad

I think the most likely cause of this problem is that your browser isn't allowing Scratch to keep its cookie set. The cookie (a small file that websites put on your computer) is how the site knows you are logged in. When it disappears, you are logged out. If your browser is erasing the cookie after a certain period of time, it could be causing this problem. Try clearing out your cache first to see if that helps. If not, try changing your security settings, or using a different browser to see if the problem happens on both (Firefox or Chrome are good options).

Another possible cause is that your internet service provider is using a firewall that keeps (or loses) your cookies for you, but that's very rare and much less likely. Do you access Scratch through a large institution, like a library or school?
