Jared and the Cult

PART I

It was a normal night... the streets were quiet other then the occasional car, the lights of all the houses were off, everyone was asleep, and it was... peaceful. But, tonight, things were going to be different.

Three men walked down the street, their heads down. It was so dark that it was unusual for the men to be walking down the street with such vision without a flashlight or something. The silence of the neighborhood was broken by their footsteps. Nothing else. You couldn't hear them breath or anything, and you couldn't really see them because of their long black coats and their hoods. You could only hear their footsteps.

--

Jared was a night person. He always slept late, much over his parents. He was normally looking through stuff in the web when suddenly the light flickered out. He stood up from his comfortable wooden seat and he opened up the binds of his window to check outside. The lights were completely out as well. Another rolling blackout.

Jared had to get to the bottom of this. The same thing happened at the same time, day in and day out, until morning came. He walked outside with a flashlight, and he flicked the switch on.

He walked down his driveway, barefoot. The soft cold ground soothed his feet as he continued moving forward. Soon he reached the sidewalk, and he pointed his flashlight to the right. There he found three strange men walking towards him. They began to move faster. Jared realized what was going on. But they suddenly burst into sprint, and blocked his way inside his house. So he darted off.

He ran down the sidewalk with the men close behind. They were so silent it built up on his fear. Jared wasn't known for his running skills, and the men began to close him on him. But before they could do so, Jared built up all of his energy and leaped onto a fence. Before the men could get to him he hopped over it. There the men waited outside of the fence.

To Jared's fear, the fence he leaped over was Old Man Kenny's house. He had a powerful, angry guard dog whom was awake all of the time. At first Jared didn't see him, so he pointed his flashlight towards the house. It was chipped and old, made out of cracked, rotting wood and a broken door. Nestled to the side was a doghouse, which was in even worse shape then the house itself. So he knew the dog slept outside.

A growling noise caught Jared's attention. He shined his light all over the place, but he couldn't see a dog. But then, through the thick and tall grass, he caught a shade of brown and black. It was the guard dog.

Suddenly he started barking. Soon enough he charged at Jared. But Jared had to choose from fighting three men whom wanted to chase him, or a vicious guard dog. Clutching his flashlight, Jared chose the latter option.

He waited for the dog to get close, and then he swung at it with all of his might. The dog leaped back in pain, and yelped. Then he started growling again, and he readied himself for another attack run.

The dog charged at him once more! This time, the dog leaped into the air! It was a nice thing that Jared was one of the best baseball players on his team. He swung at the dog again, hitting him hard in the jaw. Then he jumped to the side, and the dog slammed into the fence. The dog, now badly hurt and bleeding, yelped again and ran off.

After that, Jared didn't know how much time passed. When sunrise came, he jumped up the fence to see if the men were there. Before he saw what was behind the fence, a muscular hand grabbed his arm!

To be continued...

(Criticism is well valued, thank you and have a scary [freak]in' day)
