Is Scratch Dying???

I'm just wondering, cuz a lot of projects aren't getting views or comments, and this place is starting to get inactive(well, for me it is) 0_o

When I first joined, this place was extremely active...
Will Scratch revive itself when the new version comes out?

Re: Is Scratch Dying???

If anything, the scratch site has become way more active. Member registration for the site has gone WAY up as well as the total number of projects.

Re: Is Scratch Dying???

It seems like many users were more active during the school year. Wait for school to resume, comments and views may increase.

That part I don't get. During the summer they have tons of time on their hands (at least, most people I know do) and don't have to do any homework. During the school year, there's homework, projects, etc. and they spend more time on Scratch? *sigh* I don't get it...
Oh, and the school year for Canadians or for Americans? They're different by about a month I think.

Most people that use Scratch are probably from the U.S. I would thing more time in the summer, would mean they use Scratch more. But maybe many people go to camp or vacation or just want to take a break and enjoy the summer.

Re: Is Scratch Dying???

The traffic to the website has almost doubled since January. In January we used to get around 500,000 page views per week. Now we're getting more than 800,000 page views per week (based on Google Analytics).

Sometimes if we notice something, we tend to think that most people are experiencing the same thing (scientists call this "confirmation bias"). Maybe you are getting less comments recently and then think that everyone else is experiencing the same?

In regards to number of views on projects, you could be right. There was a bug on the website that we just fixed yesterday that caused some projects views not to be counted.

We count only one view per IP. For some reason the field in the database that was storing that IP was changed from "big integer" to regular integer which made some ranges of IPs to be stored incorrectly.

This is now fixed and I would expect the view counter to work more accurately now.

Re: Is Scratch Dying???

I think fewer views and comments are a side effect of the increasing number of members and projects.  When I get on the site I, like to go to the new projects page and see what has been uploaded recently.  Lately there are so many projects being added, that I only see a fraction of the new projects.  So many projects get "buried" before anyone gets to see them.

Re: Is Scratch Dying???

Blueking, maybe you are getting less views, but I still get on average 150 views per project and usually 50+ comments. Its starting to bug me how all of these people are making projects saying to many people are leaving, and Scratch is going to "Die".
