I know we can't discuss religion on the forums, but what about projects on the main site? Are people still free do discuss it there? I'm asking because religious threads get pounced on while religious projects remain nearly untouched.

I do it on the main web, and as you may have noticed I get away with it on the forums quite a bit.

Mainly, they don't want you posting things that could become flamebait, like discussion about religion. I think projects have to follow those same guidelines, but they don't get noticed nearly as much, so they're rarely a problem.

Harakou is right; remember the two things to never discuss with others; politics and religion.

...Unless you feel like trolling.

Yuppers.
Yeah, I don't think you'd get called on a project about religions, and I have seen many posts that get away with it, but I don't report them becuase they aren't causing flame wars.

Now, I'm not on the Scratch Team or anything so I'm not 100% certain, but I'd imagine it'd be okay as long as you aren't insulting other religions (eg, "Your religion sucks! Move on with live and worship the holy beans!"). But as long as it's a polite discussion, that's fine. I know there are quite a few religious projects out there that haven't been removed - and personally, I'm fine with them - so I'd be prepared to venture a guess that it's fine.
In fact, one of the things that came up a lot when we were discussing the closing of Miscellaneous (which is no longer an issue) was telling people to make projects instead, rather than discussing it on the Forums. So if you wanted to discuss chocolate cream pie, make a project rather than posting it on the forums. I guess this idea about discussing religion sort of gets into that realm. I guess the same could go with religion. So if you wanted to discuss something off-topic from the Scratch Forums, we figured you could create a project about it instead.
Of course, don't take my word as the definitive answer. The Scratch Team definitely has a better idea of this than I do, so please wait for them to post here before thinking you've got their permission to do so.

Hmm... I think it's because Scratch is used to make projects!
EDIT: (My) 700th post!

I think its fine as long as you are just talking about it and not trying to convert people or say "THIS IS RIGHT!"

Wait, why is making a project about a topic better than making a forum thread?
Threads on the forums are more for discussing and people to talk about and exchange views, which is normally when some people will disagree and a flame war could start.
Projects would be more just telling you about the religion or what ever the topic is, and as long as they say something like "People who follow this religion believe _________" and not just "_______________"
(For example if you were talking about Christianity you could say "Christians believe that god created the world" but not "God created the world")

Well - here's the thing, and it's kind of subtle. On the website, it's ok to share expressions of faith or political beliefs.
For example:
ok:
I believe / like this.
It's not ok to talk about your faith / beliefs in a way that is disrespectful of other faiths / beliefs / viewpoints. i.e.:
not ok:
I believe / like this and you are a fool if you don't and will be punished etc. etc.
For a while we had the same policy on the forums, but we found that most discussions on these matters would devolve into flames even when those who started them had good intentions. So we reluctantly changed the rules to prevent this sort of thing, since the flames and long interminable discussions were distracting and took a lot of energy to moderate. And there of plenty of places on the webs where you can get into political / religious arguments galore, but only one where you can Scratch, so we decided to focus on that.

Spreading religious stuff and making threats? To make it against the law to spread "religious stuff" on TV would only be taking away our rights and free speech. Threats I would agree with, but I've never seen TV preachers or anyone make threats. Then again, I never really watch TV preachers...
