copyrighted music

On the Scratch website I have noticed that many projects have copyrighted music. I think A YouTube-like system could work here. (unregistered music=no sound) When these projects are downloaded, the music would not be there.

Thanks,

Re: copyrighted music

I don't think it's worth it. We should have done it right away, but we didn't.

Re: copyrighted music

The system would also give credit to the artists, and it wouldn't mute all projects, just the ones with copyrighted music that isn't in the database.

I don't think it should happen.

Re: copyrighted music

Scratch projects that contain copyrighted material are protected by the Fair Use clause in U.S. copyright law. Since Scratch is considered an educational tool, it is all right for users to include copyrighted songs in their projects! This doesn't mean that it's okay to simply include a song in an otherwise blank project. The line between legal and illegal gets a little fuzzy with fair use laws, so it's never a bad idea to read up on how they work in your country.
