I edited the title a bit to make it match the edited title on the Suggestions page. Hope this helps, but let me know if you'd rather keep it the old way.

I support this. I also think that instead of only 3 projects in each row, there should be 4-6 projects in each row, so more projects can be on the front page at one time.

Just saw this suggestion today, I think it's a good idea. In most cases, most channels stay stagnant most of the time because a project in stuck on the front page (at least until the time limit is up); randomly picking from a certain set in the list should bring some more variety to the front page.

Does anyone else have any opinions? What about those of you who are regularly on the front page? What do you think?
well, i'm on the front page right now, and i get on it about every time i make something meant to be remixed, like memes or contests. i was like "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" when i heard this idea at first, but then i thought about how this probably won't make my popularity go down, but keep it the same while others can get more popular too. it should even out the popularity for all scratchers, and, not only that, but it will make the front page way more diverse and we will see extremely complex games, as well as short run cycle animations in top loved, and famous scratchers projects, as well as a normal scratcher that deserves more views. and this also won't take away the pride of writing "Top Remixed! W00T!" in the project notes, because it will still be top remixed, just not front paged. i think this will benefit all scratchers, including famous ones.

I think that's my favorite post in here so far.

See, I like this idea because rather than just excluding the famous Scratchers, who worked long and hard to get their projects up there and are proud of those times, it includes everyone. Great job! I definitely support, but I think I'd already mentioned that.

Any other opinion? Any other frequent front-pagers have opinions? Any never or rarely front- pagers have opinions? I want to see how different types of community members feel about this suggestion. If you like it, vote!

This is a good idea that I think would be easy to implement on the current scratchR.
But I hope this would be a temporary fix until scratchr 2.0 is released with a more complete solution.
This idea dilutes the power of the top 3, and gives it to the top 10. Good!
However, there's still many other under that, that will never get attention. (Due to the same problems of people that are already popular get more attention -> top-viewed -> love-its.)
So we could make it top 20, 50, or 100... but then we have "random projects" again; it's no longer what the community think is the best projects.
(I've suggested other ways for more people to get attention to their projects than the front page, in my signature bellow. I hope we can discuss those or other potential fixes to the frontpage, promotion, tagging... problems.)

I completely support. Another thing for more not well-known scratchers is to give a section called "Reccomended by friends" It will basiclly show the projects your friends loved or favorited.

Great idea, I agree completely, and I also think there should be another two rows: A Random Project row, and a most remixed, loved and viewed together row.

Those are interesting ideas. Random Project used to exist (It was called Surprise Projects), but was removed because it would sometimes show inappropriate projects.

This is a **very** good idea. Its probably one I will test on the Clutter site. Give me a few weeks though.

Cool, glad you're testing things out! Clutter is awesome!
Here's another concern:
It seems that the front page updates only every 5 minutes. (because of caching, so the server can serve more people.)
That could reduce some of the advantages of this idea:
With random 3 picked out of 10, there's a good chance a project could be shown for 20 minutes straight, while another is not at all.
So instead perhaps,
1. Allow the front page to refresh more often. or
2. Rotate through the top 10 instead of random, or
3. Load all 10 client side, and let javascript determine which random 3 to show.
(Caching is also making "newest projects" less fair: 3 projects lucky projects get 5 minutes on the front page, while others between get no exposure. ...as someone mentioned on the forum, can't find to credit.)
I hope we can discuss my other concerns too. Thanks!

Short answer: don't worry about it, I already have a fix for that.
Long answer: I'm caching the output that comes from the database, and I'm grabbing the top 10* from the db. However on the server I will randomize what projects the user sees. The end result is that the user sees a random set of projects whenever they go to the page, while keeping my queries efficient since the results of the top 10 are cached. The same system will be used for the newest projects, so it should be more fair (yes, if more than 10* projects get shared in 5* minutes, then they won't be seen, but that's very unlikely on the Clutter site).
Regarding your other concerns, that is why I am implementing showcase Clutters. This gives everyone a chance to be on the home page, and its not "random" since people are selecting their best projects.
*All numbers (5 and 10) are just placeholders. I have no idea what constants I will actually use. I won't know until I start testing.
