mp3 control?

WOW! two questions by me at once? what is the world coming to? anyhoo,

I'm making an RPG game (the full works) and I'm not happy with the level of sound quality scratch/panther gives. It's downsampled and in mono and jumps if too much is going on at once, which is hardly what I want for my game. So, my question is, is there a way for squeak to control an mp3 player that can load up and be controlled by Panther so that it is told which songs to play (via a path to the song) and suchlike that can run in the background while the game plays, letting the music remain at a constant speed, in high quality stereo without jumping? or is there a better solution, come to that?

Thought appreaciated, Sparks  smile

Re: mp3 control?

I dont know, sounds not my area as I didn't have speakers when I was learning smalltalk (squeak) so... nXIII or LS97 may be able to help!

Re: mp3 control?

how does windows play background noices? (like classic welcome music)
Maybe scratch could start a sound the way windows does with the [start ()] block.

Re: mp3 control?

that's an interesting thought... It might even work! I don't know what command windows uses to send that sound request though... otherwise it could possibly be duplicated by squeak!

Re: mp3 control?

Open URL ()

Set it to teh path of the MP3, and it will open.
That's as close as it gets, for now.

Re: mp3 control?

I always found sounds very misteriously coded so I'm not going to be much help in this i guess  sad
what you could definitely try is coding the background music in the squeak program itself to distribute as a complied exe later on. that's all i can think of for now  hmm
