Re: MMORPG Scratch

Won't happen. Period. Too much of a strain on servers/computers.

Re: MMORPG Scratch

That will make Scratch too complicated for younger children... I think.

Re: MMORPG Scratch

I, for one, like the idea, although a different version of Scratch might have to be made in order for the plan to work, and a disclaimer warning about the fact that it's more complex than regular Scratch.

It would also be hard to test offline, unless there was a special test server for Scratchers wanting to check out WIP's.  Of course, there would have to be a special command for "test online".  There would be a yellow flag off to the side for "test", a few seconds would pass, and the test would start.  Then you could just press the yellow flag again to stop testing.

I can see it now..."SuperScratch--Imagine, program, and share a whole new way".

It could happen.  Maybe.  In 2015.

hmm

Re: MMORPG Scratch

I think there should be a block called "Universal Transmit" that transmits certain things, like typed messages or emotes, or postion of you character to other players, who will be able to see it.  However, there would have to be a typed message moderation, so it should be kept at just position, or actions.  Severs should not be used, because it would waste bandwith.  Rooms should also be limited, and in order to pay for the expense of the servers (Not selectable and each MMORPG would be only a section of one), they would probably have the sharer pay some sort of fee or membership.  Maybe YOU could learn to program and make it.  (Just kidding, that would be reeaaaaaallllllly hard).

Re: MMORPG Scratch

This wouldn't be to hard if you know a good amount of a programming language and use something besides Scratch for the Server and use Something that works better with stamping all the players on the map without any large amount of lag.

What would better, which is possible without creating to much lag, is Multiplayer. Having 2-8 players would work pretty well. With Mesh or some other way.  smile

But for the MMO blocks, that probably won't happen. You should be able to do that with what we have now.  smile  Just count how many are connected with a variable and add names to a list or just use the list to count and hold the names.  smile

Re: MMORPG Scratch

I'm making a mmorpg right now.
It's possible!
I use the host/join mesh on BYOB Scratch.

I just about burst out laghing when I heard that.  But now that I think about it, it's acually a good idea.  First impressions are often wrong.  Now, who are we going to get to program this?

Re: MMORPG Scratch

if (message said) contains (any of (banned words))
is not needed.

what if smaller ones made this, and couldn't filter all the words? then older people would just be using bad words.

you just make that premade.

Re: MMORPG Scratch

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I would like to mention that I have a current technology that is more efficient then mesh. It is an actual MMORPG engine, however it does require a large amount of knowledge in both scratch and general computing. It is called FireMMO, but you probably have never heard of it unless you hang out on the Advanced Topics section of the forum boards. If you are interested in checking this out, and want some example on how to re-create some of the blocks you posted above, (many which are already included with simple FireMMO programming) check out this link to another thread in the forums here.
