Stop hackers!

Almost everyday,I hear about someone getting hacked, even on other sites.Last year,my friend was on a very famous website. But he got a message from someone he knew online. He opened it,then his computer crashed!Unfourtanatly,he was hacked by this person.Well first, get security. And second,we have to stop hacking!Hacking is a very scary topic to disscuss. And even more teriffying if it happens to you. This is about a 1 out of 15 chance. But chances are to big.The first thing you could do prevent this is to not give your password to ANYBODY.Not even your closest friends need to know.It is even good to set limits to your projects so only friends could see them.We need to stick toghether! We will get nowhere if we turn on each other! So,read over this and protect your self. The internet is big,and many horrible people go on these sites.Be careful! And keep on scratching!

With all due respect-ballyrobot

You can't make it so only friends can view your projects.

Re: Stop hackers!

Where does 1 in 15 come from? Don't just throw out statistics like that without even knowing what you're talking about. Also, all of the things you mentioned about how to stop it are just common sense, I don't really feel this topic has a specific purpose, other then to say that hacking is "Bad" and it needs to "stop". We all know it's bad. And we all know it's never going to stop, so just be careful.

Re: Stop hackers!

@PW and Donut,

There is ALWAYS the threat of being hacked, no matter where you are. Nothing is safe. I've spoken with computer techs in the Air Force, and they all say it's really easy for someone to hack your computer, no matter where you are. One man in the Air Force who I spoke to said he went to the facebook page of some other guy and, without even friending him, figured out his IP address, dogs name, and his house address, just by looking at his facebook page.

Put up a firewall, extra security, whatever, and think through every move you make online. Nothing is perfectly safe. Remember that.

Re: Stop hackers!

Hackers in kids sites like Scratch are just people who guess overly simple passwords, not some guy with a degree in IT (if that even exists, Chile's education system is different from USA's).

why? It's fun to get hacked! Especially when you track them down and break their door and storm in with M16s!  big_smile
but what you have to realize about hackers is, they don't get paid. the only reason they hack is so they get people's terrorized complaints about hackers. If anything, this would only determine them more.
Also, you can't hack an account. you can guess a password, but that's not hacking. you can find a security breach, but that's an exploit. you can hack a computer with a database, but that gives you the master to every account, not just a single account. People seem to need more knowledge about what's a hack vs. what's an exploit...  hmm

I think the topic is about the dangers of hacking in general, not the so-called hacking on the Scratch website - let's not jump to the conclusion that the topic is the over-hyped hacking accusations here on the Scratch website.  wink

Re: Stop hackers!

There's no hacking on Scratch, because it's almost impossible to 'hack' someone's account. The only 'hacking' on Scratch is password stealing.

Re: Stop hackers!

Yes, on Scratch itself, there's no real hacking. But yes, you have to be very careful on what you do outside Scratch -- what you download, where you go to, who you meet, things like that. There are plenty of hackers and trolls outside of Scratch.

Re: Stop hackers!

To quote Kevin Mitinick:"No system is secure." It doesn't matter if you're playing Pong on a Windows 95 or building a nuke in the White House, you can still be hacked.

(Besides, it's called cracking. Hacking is when you get in, look around, and go out without touching anything.)

Re: Stop hackers!

The most secure way to store data is not at all. There's plenty of space and you'll never run out.  smile

Storing data on a password protected computer is useless if the computer has any external ports. (USB, DVD). The rule is to store as little data as possible and encrypt the rest a 1000's times over. If you wanted a secure website it would be best to use a password with a computer MAC address then only people near you could hack it. One other major rule is to use only one computer to access websites. This minimises the risk and never ever use a public computer to log into a website. Your password and username can be found using the simplest javascript.

Find someone post count. Click posts under username. Find number of pages. Times that by 40 for min and 60 for max and you have a rough estimate of post count.
