What are you trying to import?

Is it a super-large image? If so, try opening it in an image editor and then downsize it a fair bit.

What is it exactly? An image? A sound?

nah, its anything. i dont actually get to the desktop. this is what it says:

Warning! Squeak is almost out of memory!

Low space detection is now disabled. It will be restored when you close or proceed from this error notifier. Don't panic, but do proceed with caution.

Here are some suggestions:

ƒ If you suspect an infinite recursion (the same methods calling each other again and again), then close this debugger, and fix the problem.

ƒ If you want this computation to finish, then make more space available (read on) and choose "proceed" in this debugger. Here are some ways to make more space available...
   > Close any windows that are not needed.
   > Get rid of some large objects (e.g., images).
   > Leave this window on the screen, choose "save as..." from the screen menu, quit, restart the Squeak VM with a larger memory allocation, then restart the image you just saved, and choose "proceed" in this window.

ƒ If you want to investigate further, choose "debug" in this window.  Do not use the debugger "fullStack" command unless you are certain that the stack is not very deep. (Trying to show the full stack will definitely use up all remaining memory if the low-space problem is caused by an infinite recursion!).

Re: Scratch team, please help!!!

Did you try rebooting your computer? That always works for me when it says Squeak is low on memory.

Re: Scratch team, please help!!!

Yeah, rebooting should do the trick. If that doesn't work, try reinstalling Scratch.

Something like that happened to me with music. I just had to clean out the hard drive of some old programs I never use. it may have to do with hard drive. Maybe?

Actually, when it says Squeak space is low, it means RAM - which stands for Random Access Memory. It's running out of it, meaning that the space partitioned for it is pretty much full... So it's probably doing some sort of intensive task.

I suggest rebooting your computer to clear out any memory that isn't needed, and if that doesn't work you can try A) Shift-clicking the "R" in the Scratch logo and saving the image for the end-user (and then restart Scratch) or B) Reinstalling Scratch.

Good luck!

I know squeak space means ram, it was an example. Because Hard Drive, like RAM, has memory limit.  smile

There's a much easier way (try this under your own risk):
Make a notepad file. Write:
mystring=(8000000)
Save it as RAMcleaner.vbe

Open the file. It will be more helpful if you were to close unnecessary programs to save on RAM after you run this script.

This clears up your RAM. When you open a program, even after you close it, it will still take up a bit of RAM. So, use this to help you.

FOR WINDOWS ONLY.

Re: Scratch team, please help!!!

In my newest Castlevania project, when I was working on it, Dracula was like 181% size, but online he's 100% size, what happened?

Hi jakholle - maybe it would be prudent to make your own topic about this? It could help you get a response faster.

Sizing is off online (sprites can't be larger than the stage, no matter what size it's at) so that could be the issue...

Re: Scratch team, please help!!!

I think this error is happening because...

Your stored RAM is taking all the space needed to run Scratch.

You will need a certain amount of MB space to run Scratch. If you can, please tell us the RAM and saved memory (SM) (both of them in how much space) you have left and compare it with the reference guide. *hicup*
