I just got an Ubuntu boot-to disk from my computer teacher, and am almost ready to try it out! what cool tricks should I know about in Ubuntu?

It took me a while to figure out how you can change the image for the logon screen. You should try it it's awesome. There are instructions somewhere.

It had at least 1 defect area...
It kept giving me buffer errors when I try to load, and my parents told me not to use it...

When I first installed Ubuntu I had a copy which made the screen flicker like crazy once it installed I downloaded updates and it works great. Try getting a copy of the original site. If you download it on to windows then transfer on to a disk windows cannot copy some of the files and that could cause one of those errors but for me it was only screen flickering.
