All the projects by your friends show up on your Scratch home page... So that's a semi-subscribe button.

I don't really want their projects to send me messages, either - I think the current system works just fine smile

Like Harakou said, there is already a similar suggestion.

There is a RSS feed for that... just go to http://scratch.mit.edu/channel/friends_latest and 'get' the "Subscribe" link.
