Mods?

Can someone please explain to me (and everyone else who might want to know) what mods are all about, and how to make them?

Cheers  smile

Re: Mods?

Well, mod is short for Community Moderator. They help to censor out inappropriate posts and give advice. I don't know all the mods but here are some of them.

Coolstuff
Dazachi(not confirmed)
Paddle2See
Andremsh

There are mod elections about once every four months.

Find someone post count. Click posts under username. Find number of pages. Times that by 40 for min and 60 for max and you have a rough estimate of post count.

Re: Mods?

They are kinda the same thing... just that Scratch Mods censor out inappropriate projects.

I don't think you can make moderators. He's definitely talking about modifications.

Re: Mods?

A modification is a version of scratch, based on the scratch source code which has been altered by one or more scratch users. To make one you download the source code from here: Source Code And edit it, programming in smalltalk. Examples of these mods and more info on them can be found here: Scratch Modifications (wiki)

Why would he be talking about making a mod if he was talking about moderators, it would be "How do I become one" Or something like that.  tongue

It's illegal to publish a Scratch Modification out of the original Scratch application.

No it isn't the TOS doesn't say anything about it.

But why would you do that and no use the source code which was designed to be modded, whereas the offical release isn't?

Actually you can, you just have to take out the share menu and change the logo. It is no different than the Source code at all. I'm pretty sure BYOB was made with Scratch, not the Source code.

That's because it started out as an experimental version of Scratch.

Re: Mods?

Hahahahahaha glad you guys took the time to firgure out what I was actually talking about!  big_smile  I maybe should've made that a bit clearer. Yes, I mean modifications.

Thanks for the help so far. I have a few more questions:
1) Why create a mod?
2) How much skill or knowledge is needed to do so?
3) Are there any reasons why I should download and use a mod?

1) Because for some people, Scratch is limited.
2) You require a basic knowledge of smalltalk and how the sourcecode works.
3) Because the mods have more features to add to your projects and just simply make them better.
