So even if you're a friendly, knowledgable person (and most of the under-14 candidates are/were) it seems pretty reasonable to limit the job to people who are closer to adulthood, in other words, 14+.That is a great explanation, but it wasn't what I was asking. I am in agreement with the new requirements and I am 16, so I definitely know what it is like to be 14 or older. I was just recommending that somebody (like Lightnin) put a summary of the reasoning on the very first post so people will be a little less likely to explode. This is for the sake of the angry 13-and-unders and the mods who are going crazy explaining it over and over. Sorry for being unclear.
Well, I'm in the process of writing a topic - which should be ready for posting in a week or two - that will potentially clear up the responsibilities of moderating for everyone to see.
Sounds dandy! I'll be interested in reading it.

Where? My personal longest text block is one that fills up an entire page. (It was a pokemon creepy story)

Disagree.
2. Users need to be mature ( Even though I could list several people who I feel are mature enough)
Prove how 14 is better than 13.
3. Younger Scratchers may not understand the commitment required for this job.
^.
4. They will have to spend lots of time on Scratch, which is a concept that younger Scratchers may not understand.
Prove how 14 is better than 13.
5. The scratch team is scared that they will see a lot of the spam they saw over the summer, and they don't feel a younger person would know how to handle it.
That's a completely true fact.
6. If the Scratch team lowers it to twelve, there will also be more innapropriate Scratchers than there are at fourteen.
That makes no sense. Also, prove how it's better than 14.
7. Sometimes, spammers and others will attack mods directly, and the scratch team feels that younger scratchers will not be able to handle that.
Prove how 14 is better than 13.
In short, the Scratch team just does not feel that younger people will understand the job or what to do in many situations.
Do NOT yell at me for these. I did not make any of these up- most of these are stated from the Scratch team or other Scratchers that think logically.

To clarify: The Scratch Team doesn't feel comfortable with those younger than 14 looking at those things, even if they [the users] feel they are comfortable with it.
2. Users need to be mature ( Even though I could list several people who I feel are mature enough)
Prove how 14 is better than 13.
The Scratch Team realizes that age is not a factor of maturity, they feel that there are users under age 14 that are quite mature. The issue is what I stated above, that they are not comfortable with younger age users handling some of the content that moderators have to handle.
3. Younger Scratchers may not understand the commitment required for this job.

There are users who do not understand the commitment of the job, but I don't think age has something to do with it because this is issue is widespread among different ages. Again, the issue is they are not comfortable with younger age users handling some of the content that moderators have to handle.
4. They will have to spend lots of time on Scratch, which is a concept that younger Scratchers may not understand.

Not necessarily. An older-aged moderator may not know how to react to spam if they're new at the moderating experience. Again, the issue is not the fact that a younger user will know how to handle it, the issue is that they [the Scratch Team] is not okay with younger users seeing and handling it.
6. If the Scratch team lowers it to twelve, there will also be more innapropriate Scratchers than there are at fourteen.

Not true. They realize that there are users under the age of 14 who are probably mature enough to take on the job. The issue is that they are not comfortable with younger users taking on the job. It kind of is the same thing with most parents worried about the content of what their children see - they probably would not feel comfortable with a ten, eleven, or twelve year old seeing mature content, even if they [the child] feels they are mature enough. My guess is that the Scratch Team is also not comfortable with thirteen year olds handling the content that a moderator usually deals with (hence why the rule is probably set at 14).

My [rather redundant] replies. The issue is not that they think a 10,11,12,13 year old is not as good as a fourteen year old; the issue is that they do not feel comfortable with younger aged users taking on the job of moderator.

*clap clap* Now, I really get the reasoning behind the 14+ rule, even though I agree with Ussat's disagreement... Odd, eh? ST is doing it not because they think us younger users aren't mature etc, but because they don't want us to stressed out with the job - Fighting spam, being active, mature, healthy(yes - when you're sick you won't do a good job), being social on the net and in real life....It's hard, it's time consuming, it's stressful. It's to help us keep our lives free with that until they're comfortable seeing us work....Hmm... I worded badly there.

That isn't really something we would like to encourage. While it is great that you want to help out, I think we would prefer you left it up to the real moderators - often, we deal with a problem differently than one might expect. Just reporting the post and moving on is the right thing to do.
Don't take this as the official answer by any means, however - obviously, I am not the Scratch Team, and am simply inferring from past experiences.

I would assume that this is the official stance. Most comments posted by Scratch Team members discourage involvement when dealing with someone acting inappropriately, and encorage flagging instead. For example, here:
