I thought of this really nifty idea, instead of Scratch Team, Moderator, New Scratcher or Scratcher that the higher your post count, the higher your rank! Or, if your a Scratch Team member, mod, or Curator, you get other rankings!
Scratch Team = Scratch Team
Moderator = Scratch Cat Police Force
Curator = Gobo Curator
0 Posts = Sleeping Scratcher
1 Post = I LIVE!
2-15 Posts = New Scratcher
15-100 Posts = Newish Scratcher
101 Posts = I'm a hat!
102-250 Posts = Novice Programmer
250-500 Posts = Programmer
500-1499 Posts = Expert Programmer
1500 Posts = Man, I have way too many posts
1501-5000 Posts = The Scratch Cat's Assistant
5000-10000 Posts= The Mega Forum Poster
10001 Posts = Above and Beyond!

This has been suggested before, and I believe the main drawback was that people would spam just to change the title. I dunno, it could work though.

This would just encourage users to get a higher post count, which leads to spam... during the reign of a thread that listed the top posters, several users went in a post flurry - more and more posts started getting even more useless than they are now.
And a user's post count doesn't show how good, old, or experienced a forumer they are - it just shows how much time they spend online here.

I'm just going to quote this instead of saying something myself, since he put it perfectly.

Hm... I guess your right. Maybe instead of by forum posts, how long you've been on Scratch? But I'd have to change the rankings.

Basing it on time on the forums would be better, but it's really nit necessary and would make some people feel bad. Besides, there are tons of people who have been registered on the forums for well over a year but only have 1 or 2 posts.

I like the idea, but the only drawback is that people post alot of useless posts just to rank up.

Maybe you have to spend time online to get high ranks instead of having an account for that is old to get to get them.

To be honest, I just think that any sort of ranking system is unnecessary. We don't want to make people feel bad about their status, or have it be a source of bragging.

Would it clock days of activity or days?
But that might bring back the "I'm an '07er, I'm superior" thing... and the New Scratcher status doesn't help this either.
