COMPLETELY UNFAIR.
My "genius 2-year old, moronic 40-year old" analogy was completely ignored too.

I disagree with your opinion here illusionist.
I understand what a hard decision it was for the Scratch Team, and I know they never want to do anything "unfair", but I think they made the right call this time.
The age limit isn't perfect, we can all agree on that, but it's the best we can do. Those younger than 14 simply shouldn't have to see what some of the spammers and trollers have to post.
This is not to say that all people under the age of 14 cannot handle the situation well, but the Scratch Team shouldn't be responsible for allowing children of an age that young have to be subjected to the images some spam bots/trolls will post.

Ah! I finally remember the last points I wanted to make.

Not only might you have to deal with inappropriate content as a moderator, there is also the issue of the commitment required. To become a moderator is a huge commitment, something that really can't be asked of younger children before they know the full nature of something like that.
Most children with limited life experience view commitment as an easy thing to pull off, it is not.
However I also realize that several great candidates are having their chance to become a moderator (this fall) taken away. I agree, in this respect it is unfair, but I firmly believe that this age limit is a positive thing and will do more good than harm.

Hmm, most people tend to get really into the whole "birds and the bees" thing when they get into seventh grade, as much as I don't like it, Kids start to mature out of that when they get into eighth grade/high school.
So I guess so

It is disappointing but fair.
However what is unfair is the dethroning of illusionist and Dazachi, they have never had a problem with the stuff they have been exposed to and have proved themselves worthy of the position. I will attempt to at least argue this case to the ST.
