After long consideration, we've made some changes to the Scratch Community Moderator program.
http://info.scratch.mit.edu/Community_Moderators
Candidates must now be 14 years or older and have their parent's permission to become a mod. As a result of these changes, Dazachi and Illusionist will be retiring after the upcoming elections. We're grateful for all they've given to the Scratch community.
The elections will be delayed as we're working on a new voting system to ensure fairness and legitimacy. We will make another announcement about the elections on Oct. 14, and hope to hold them soon after.
Scratch On!

So definitely 100% 14, or is there any chance it could be changed to 13?

Yep, definitely 14 by election day.

So, this knocks out about 80% of the candidates.
Yes, that is true.

No, it's 14.

OK, I guess that means I need to wait until next August .

Nope - the whole debacle with it was never officially announced. People just started posting their speeches.
This is really the first "official" election post we've gotten.

Nope, not yet. The new criteria for running will change who is eligible. So we'll have to wait and see the new group of nominees.

XD
I'm sure there are Scratchers who are younger than 14 who are responsible enough, and would do a wonderful job. But being a mod is a big commitment, and we don't feel comfortable asking Scratchers younger than that to take it on.

Darnit. Ah well, I probably wouldn't have been able anyways xD

I understand. Oh well, the elections after this aren't too far away.

I waited 4 months and getting so excited and my parents all wishing that win and this ...this thing comes up that says I have to freaking be 14? Who do you think I am, gonna be such bad mods? You are the ones choosing, so you can chose who gets the job, so you should be able to choose a mature mod. I'm so sad right now, I would cry, but the madness is over taking it.
Sorry to display my immaturity, but I just had to say that.

I agree. Darn it, I was so excited
Well, what's decided is decided and it's the Scratch team's choice after all. I'll take this decision with a grain of salt (am I using this idiom correctly?)
Good-bye, mod banners.

And if you ask my friends, or the poeple I've interacted with, you will see that I'm a positive person with good intentions, and that I am mature. This is how these few minutes layedout:
I open scratch Forums, see this thread in announcements, and I eagerly click it, while opening word and getting my speech out. After I got it, and while it was opening, I eagerly read the guidelines, and when I saw that line, I swear, I slammed my hand down on my laptop, uh, now I'm not sure it's fine. But anyways, I immediatly told my parents(They were eager for me too) and they got really sad for me.
Then, I went into the shower to shower, and trust me, I wasn't in a happy mood.

Yes. This eliminates pretty much everyone.

Why don't you feel comfortable?

It's perfectly understandable why you created an age limit, but this really cuts out a lot of the Scratchers that want to run for moderator.
I'm sure that there are plenty of Scratchers under age 14 that would be okay for being a moderator.
On the other hand - woo, elections!

My guess: As a moderator they would accept that:
• They may have to answering reports that may lead to disturbing language, inappropriate images, and the like
• They will have to spend lots of their time on the Scratch forums, answering reports and so on
• It's a very large commitment (younger people might not understand that )
• Much younger users might have trouble understanding what's inappropriate and what's not
• Users need to be mature
I'm bad at explaining what I want to say. Dx
..........................................
I'll be 14 early-ish next year if I want to run then...
Anyway I'm happy with the new rules - to be honest I felt a bit that several users at least didn't really understand what they were shooting for.
What about the TBG, though? I think all of us are 13, except for Survivorduck who's 14.

You went to shower??? Ironic, I did the same thing. I sang, and I invented a song. I like to sing. My voice isn't Broadway-star like, but it isn't, say, Dracula with a sore throat.

Well, there's no use being sad. I mean, it's their decision and being able to accept that is part of being mature...I'm not angry, just sad. But I know I'l have nother chance! When i'm older and I (hopefully) have less homework!
