Progress Report:
1. Messed around with AB3's base. Didn't accomplish much, but you can now fling the created with your mouse.
2. Modified AB3's weapon for online playability.
3. Nearing completion with the lasso select. I'll upload once I'm done.

What direction do you think this should head next? I think getting the basic framework down is best before giving the Created "Intelligence" (which should be really fun ), but in your view, what's up next?

That's what I would say, cuz that's gonna be the hardest part. For example, being able to hang from the mouse, but if the mouse is clicked or thrown hard enough, he flys off, plus reacting to changes in velocity.

Oh, I wanted to ask, would this be 1s1s1c? I know AB3 is a specialist, but would that be mind-bendingly difficult?

Depends on how interactive we want it. As you say, I am a specialist in 1s1s1cs but that's only when I want to compress a project well, this project is a little too big for that I think.
