Yeah I have a few questions about the layout. I've never looked at the program, how is it?

Similar to scratch. Only slightly.

If you wanna code, classes are behaviors.

Erm... No image editor...

Re: Stencyl Help Topic

Stencyl is ok, the only thing similar to Scratch is the block editor and even that is really different. It has all the basic scratch block categories that Scratch has and then some subcategories on top of that as well as 5 times more blocks. If you found Scratch to be challenging then Stencyl will be over your head.

The program being in beta does have a few bugs. I was just placing a single sprite on screen once but when the program ran it showed 20 of the sprite on screen in a random pattern. I have also experienced sprites that screw up and make code not run, and black screens.

Its far better for creating the kinds of games you see on flash sites than Scratch is but it is still not the "Dream Tool' people make it out to be. Making games with pure code using Flixel is easier and better in the long run, or at least until Stencyl improves.

Re: Stencyl Help Topic

Were you purposely trying to make that happen or something?
In all the months Rhy's been using it, that stuff has never happened to him

Re: Stencyl Help Topic

No, I was just trying to program. I think it may be that the code editor is unstable or something. Rhy probably doesn't bother with code so maybe he hasn't caused these kinds of bugs. I haven't tried the block editor yet so maybe its more stable? Not sure, but regardless, these kinds of things should never happen.

EDIT: Just checked the bugs forum @ stencyl and there are tons of weird fatal bugs like this. People are reporting that their scripts and breaking completely and freezing and other screw ups all with typical use of the program.

Re: Stencyl Help Topic

I don't really know, and I don't understand why you're using code when you can just get the same result way faster with the blocks.
With less error, I might add

With less error, I might add

1. It isn't faster, I can type something faster than I can look up a block and fit it into the right place.

2. It is easier to port my other pure code scripts using the text editor

3. If you use the text editor you can use all the features possible, the block editor is more limited.

4. Typically, the way I code produces the right results when I code it in FlashDevelop with Flixel. The errors that come up are not my fault, but the program's fault.

Regardless of whether I should use blocks or text both should work without potentially breaking the program.

Re: Stencyl Help Topic

Oh, but even people who use it normally get bugs. You are a Stencyl forum member, look at the bugs forum. The program has a huge amount of bugs, which is why it is still in beta. I think it may be able to meet people expectations if the bugs are worked out when the program is finished.

Re: Stencyl Help Topic

I need help with Stencyl. I pretty much have it down. Except for gravity. I myself am clueless as to how to make gravity. When I use the movement packages from StencylForge, it doesn't work, and when I use the "run and jump lite" kit, it will only work on the first level. What am I doing wrong? How can I make it work?

Go into scene physics, and set your gravity to whatever strength and at whatever angle you like.

Re: Stencyl Help Topic

Ok.

1) How do you Show/Hide actors? (It's a matter of visibility)

2) How do you destroy actors? (As in, get rid of one when it's done its stuff)

3) How do you manage layers? For example, I'm trying to get a light circle thing that follows the player to be behind the tiles.

No, I'm not back (yet  tongue ), so pretend this is invisible.

Re: Stencyl Help Topic

Just downloaded it. I only have one problem. I created a collision group called "enemies" and when I tried to assign one of my enemies to it, it didn't show up when I was selecting the group! I'm confused...

Back. For now. Maybe.
