Online Support

I've been noticing that a lot of websites offer a feature to 'talk' to an online support person. And then I thought, why couldn't this work for Scratch?

Maybe the Scratch team can elect a certain amount of Scratchers - called support Scratchers - who have been using Scratch for a long time, have shown to have good language skills and are able to utilise their Scratch knowledge for help and support purposes.

If a user of this service has found that a Support Scratcher has been using inappropriate language, there would be a report support scratcher button.

I'm assuming if this plan does go along, it will be trialled in English first and then other languages.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think an online support service for Scratch would be useful?  Or are the Scratch forums adequate enough?

Re: Online Support

Good thinking, something like this would be very helpful.
Although, this would put some scratchers above others...  which requires moderation and often causes hard feelings.

We are all good at different things, I think it should be easy for scratchers with similar interests and skill levels to find and help each other.   Here's what I suggested: Help others to get help.

Thanks for your thoughts on the topic. I don't think there would be much hard feelings however, Scratch already chooses moderators, curators and wiki users, I don't think this would be much different.

That's why it's a suggestion, I'm thinking aloud.

It's a bit like Microsoft's Casey except you're talking to a real person, not an automated machine.

Re: Online Support

Having Scratchers 'talk' to various 'strangers' seems a bit scary...  yikes

Why can't people just get help from the forums or wiki?  hmm

Wiki users? We approve everyone except the people that don't have enough experience or sent a bad reason for why they should have an account.  tongue

Re: Online Support

Jonathanpb, you're turning the idea into a chat room, it's a direct form of online help and support.

And what about those that aren't chosen? They'd probably feel even worse seeing how loosely your form of accepting wiki users is.
