um...glitch?

I saw this on the forums page:

http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/7198/glitchb.png

huh? a user called 11-16-01? I looked them up and they didn't exist, and, when I click the link, It gives me a bad request error. Is this a problem or is there really a user called 11-16-01?

Re: um...glitch?

Oh, it's probably just a minor glitch. If you reload the page it will probably show what it is supposed to: it isn't showing the user, it printed the date instead an accident.

Nope. I reloaded as many times as I could before Jonathanpb posted. It still showed the same thing.

There is such a user. Here. And about the bad request link: it's probably because he/she posted a comment then he/she deleted it.

^This pretty much explains it all.  tongue

When comments are deleted or are removed by moderators, the forum main page, for some reason for another, doesn't update to reflect the change. Hence, clicking on the link will lead to an error page.

Weird. Why didn't they show up when I searched them?

Nope. That doesn't show up either. Oh well. That's a Google glitch.

The forums use it's own search engine.
The main site uses Google.

I tried both search things, and the user didn't come up.

You can easily search up users on the main site by typing http://scratch.mit.edu/users/(username here)smile

It worked for me in the forum search and google search.  wink

Explanations as to why 11-16-2010 might not show up in a search:
Google indexes new content rather fairly slowly, so new web content might not show up until maybe a few day, weeks, or even a moth. Since the comment by 11-16-2010 is no longer there, it might not even be indexed at all.

The forum search engines can only search up users by comments they have made in the forums. I believe that missing comment was the only one made by 11-16-01; since his/her comment is no longer there, the forum search engine will not show up the user in a search.
