Scratch is safe to download.

I assure you Scratch is 100% safe, not certain that this should be a advanced topic though and grammer

Scratch is made by MIT, why would they put a virus in it?

I can assure you, thousands of people would have a virus by now if this was true.
Scratch does not contain a virus in itself. It could be possibly infected by one, though.

If you download it off this site, it's okay.
I can't guarantee downloading it from another site, though

Scratch is completely safe as long as you get it from the official download location.

I can say with 100% certainty that Scratch is completely safe...
If you're not convinced:
Scratch is made by MIT, and the students are doing it so they get good marks. The professor would fail the student if there were a virus embedded in the program, and then the student would have just wasted a couple thousand dollars tuition.

I'm pretty sure Scratch is safe to download, I've never had a problem with it.

Scratch is certainly safe to download when obtained from the official download page.
As for an explanation about why your friend's version of Scratch was showing up as the cause of the virus: viruses can easily attach themselves to other programs, and it is likely that the virus was from elsewhere and attached itself to Scratch. So remember to keep your anti-virus and anti-malware programs up to date.

Don't listen to any people who claim they know what was wrong with the computer, they probably just made something up because they didn't know, this is sometimes the case or maybe they just made a mistake in the testing and somehow thought that Scratch was a virus

avidonna was infected by a virus in scratch! i think scratch is not 100% safe at all...

Yes. Scratch is 101% safe. It doesn't contain a virus, but viruses can attach to it so that when you open it the virus will be released. That doesn't mean it is downloaded with a virus. And just remember this: Scratch was made by MIT! It is COMPLETELY safe.

Hence why we should keep our anti-virus and anti-malware programs up-to-date to make sure any malicious code doesn't attach itself to Scratch (or any other legit program we have on our computer for that matter)

If it wasn't, my computer and my SCHOOL'S computer and my memory stick would've been dead by now. (Yes I have Scratch on my 8GB Lexar USB Memory Stick... xD)
My school used Scratch and they don't have a problem. You just need a better antivirus. Try using Avast, works wonders on me.
