Java, is it possible?

I am a scratcher and love scratch.
but, I saw something that I may love, JAVA!!
I am now programming in java, but still visit and make scratch projects.
my question is, is it possible that what i can create on scratch I can create in java?

thanx!

Re: Java, is it possible?

I tried java, and gave up in two days. All I would do was make words on screen. If you need any Java help, such as your IDE or finding the JDK, here is a forum topic I made about it a while back: this is the topic

I hope this helps! You need both an IDE and a JDK, by the way. and the whole thing is text, it is much harder than Scratch.

Re: Java, is it possible?

You can use java to make even better games than you could with scratch. Of course this will require A LOT of training as opposed to scratch where you can start making games right away. You could try a program called greenfoot. It is a program that lets you create interactive java programs easily although not nearly as easily as with scratch.

Visual Basic as another language you might want to try. It is fairly simple to use, but the results can be amazing!

Compare the following projects written in both Scratch and Java:

Scratch version at http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Paddle2SeeFixIt/206878

Java version at http://greenfootgallery.org/scenarios/181

In both cases, after some of the spiders die, you can click somewhere in the world and the remaining live spiders will reproduce producing new spiders to continue the battle. However, if you reproduce too many times with the Scratch version, the results may not be what you expect.

The Java version starts out with a huge number of spiders so it is difficult to tell much about what is going on.  If you let them fight for awhile, the number of live spiders will be decreased down to the point that you can see the individual spiders roaming around looking for other spiders to fight.

Dick Baldwin - Don't get stuck scratching. When you master Scratch, move on up to more serious programming languages. Free online programming tutorials:
