I use scratch for graphics (ROFL), I'd like to always export as GIF, stencyl can't use BMPs.

Good suggestion! It'd really broaden the use of Scratch... Of course, there are much better ways to paint, but hey!
A possible workaround for the time being would be to open up the BMP in MS Paint and save it as a GIF. It might be a little extra work, but it works just fine. Though I question why you couldn't just create the image in MS Paint in the first place.

.png files are better in my opinion. Much less change to the original image, alpha support, etc.
You should use .png instead. I know .gif can make animations and stuff, but .png pictures are better for still images.

Very true, although their size can be a problem.
And, why are you using the Scratch editor for graphics? I think even MS Paint is better!

Lawl, good points. Too bad MS Paint doesn't have gradients. ...Or transparency. XD
The Scratch editor should be like an in-game gimp, but keeping the tools that make it simple. Like an advanced mode-basic mode sorta thing.

Oh yeah. Now that I think about it, MS Paint doesn't really have anything on Scratch's paint editor. Nothing worthwhile, at least.

I use a PPC Mac, and scratch is better than any other paint program for my OS. I support.

Ohh... PPC Mac. I used to have one of those. It was painfully slow.[/offtopic]
Back to the topic. You can export as a gif! Just right click a costume and click "export this costume" and it exports it as a gif.

Hey, don't dis MS paint
Besides, the Windows 7 version supports that stuff
Look at this
Done in paint (Except the gradient in the back)
And this
Paint again.
You can't even compare scratch paint and MS paint. The Scratch paint can't even distinguish between two slightly similar colours, and only has one usable button

I know no other paint program with gradient.

I can name you some
Paint.net
Fireworks
Photoshop
Gimp
Sai paint tool
Basically anything that was made past the year 2000

Now we are getting off-topic.

I thought Scratch already always exported every image as a gif
Or is that pictures with transparency only

From what I've seen, it seems to switch between different file types depending in the image. It would be nice if it were consistent, or if the user could pick the file type.

I have...
flash
fireworks
seashore
GIMP
scratch
Yet I choose scratch for art (well pixel art), is there something wrong with me?

Yeah, but it displays really good graphics.

Not bad for smooth graphics, with the vector tools & glow filters.
