I added a project to this gallery http://scratch.mit.edu/users/showgalleries/66560 and it changed the picture for that gallery to the thumbnail of my project.
I found the same issue posted in the "all about Scratch" forum http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=6974 but did not find one in this troubleshooting forum.
I am using IE 7, Windows XP Pro SP2, on a DSL connection.

I noticed that happening to my galleries as well lately. I also had someone comment on one of my projects asking if i messed with his gallery, because my project became the thumbnail for his gallery.

I think the way it is supposed to work is if the the gallery does not have a picture assigned to it then it uses the thumbnail of the latest project as the picture. But I am not sure if that is true or if it is working properly.

I think it stops if you place a picture in yourself... maybe it does that automatically if you don't add a picture yourself.

Paddle2See is correct. A gallery without a custom thumbnail gets the thumbnail of the first project added to it.

Thanks for clearing that up. I don’t think it’s intuitive that someone other than the owner of a gallery should be able to change the picture for that gallery. At least we can explain that it is a feature and not a bug if the issue comes up again.

Oh, that must be fairly recent then, I don't remember it happening to me.

Yeah, I see your point. Although, if you let anyone add projects to your gallery in some way you're giving away that privilege.
In theory, you should create a gallery and you should add projects right away, then later maybe let others add projects to it. But as a creator, you need to set the theme and examples of what the gallery is about.
What do you think?

Perhaps I’m missing something but your explanation does not quite match with what I saw. I’ve added a project with screen shots that (almost) show the behavior that I mentioned. I might have been able to duplicate the original behavior but I was too slow and someone added another project to the same gallery before I could complete my screen snapshots. But I think what I captured is still useful.

Basically, I remember this from a previous post, whenever you add a project, instead of the Rubik's Cube, it switches to the project because the Rubik's Cube was… *forgot word* but they changed it. It's no glitch

I think you’re saying that the placeholder gallery graphic is now permanently replaced with the thumbnail of first project that is added. Most of the time that first project ought to have been added by the actual owner of the gallery. That seems like a reasonable way to set the gallery graphic. But what I saw was that the thumbnail from the most recently added project became the current graphic for the gallery and was updated every time a new project was added to that gallery.

Exactly. That's a feature (I posted this same thread a while back)

This bug appears to have returned. I just added a project to the "The Sound of... Music" gallery and now the thumbnail of my project shows up as the graphic for that gallery. This gallery already had 48 projects. Mine was not the first.
