Download the scratch program maybe?

Right. You need the Scratch program to run Scratch files that you have downloaded. Scratch is an interpreted language and needs the interpreter/development program. Go to the home page and look for the Download link in the upper right area. Download it and install it.
If you have already done that and you are still getting the incompatible file type message, possibly you had an installation error. Try installing it again. Hope that helps!
