I suggest making a block that would let you change the display type and the positions of variables. It would be very useful because you could put variables where you want without having to show them in the thumbnail, and you could move variables around in the project.
Vote for it here.

That would be cool, but it seems a bit silly to me... ^_^

You need a variable one position at some times and another at others. SIlly how?

It's not silly it's wanted and many scratchers (including myself have expressed a need for it on other threads). In addition I'd like to have some sort of block to switch between the display types and minimum/maximum settings for sliders. You may for instance want to change the slider limits, the variable display type, depending on the selections a user makes but currently you can't do that when in running mode. It would allow you to create a more interactive interface to add to your scratch apps.

Even though the display is ugly, changing the style may be a bit extreme in my opinion.
Changing the positions would be great - I support that!

But that involves editing of the internal stuff, and not everyone knows how to do that...

This has been suggested a lot before, and I'm not sure how one would change the styling of the variable watcher. However, I still think changing a variable's position is a must for Scratch 2.0.

You can change the style of a variable by right-clicking on it and choosing a style, but if the variable isn't showing when you save or upload it, the variables change to the default style and go in the upper left corner, which is one of the main reasons I suggested this.

Oh, you mean the way it displays it? My apologies - I was thinking that maybe you meant designing new ways to show it - with different fonts, and backgrounds.
I think they should probably fix that bug as a priority, but 2.0 definitely needs these blocks, too.
