A new user friendly 1-5 star rating system.

The 1-5 star has been suggested before, but it has a problem: New users releasing their projects for the first time would get ratings of 1 or 2 if the viewers rated what they really thought about the project. So, 2 possible solutions:

1. Only users that have been on scratch for a certain amount of time can get ratings.
EXAMPLE: I want to rate this users project 1! D: they are a new user! I can't give them ratings!

2. Only projects with a certain number of views can be rated.
EXAMPLE:Oh look! a front page project! Poop, another spongebob unfitting music project. Oh well, I can rate it down! Oh look! a new users project! Cry stupid baby as I rate you project down! @#!$!$! I can't do that. Not popular enough.

This has been suggested a lot - the fact of the matter is, people get offended when others rate their projects low. Whether it got on the front page or not, it's still not nice when you get a project rated "1."

Yeah... despite the precautions it still would have an impact on users' feelings.  hmm

This has been resolved already with a no - and even with the precautions, it could hurt a lot of user's feelings. Plus, it would be easy to cheat...

I think the Love-it system really isn't bad. Ratings seem a bit unnecessary, and not worth the risk.

Love-Its and Ratings are not the same at all, stop comparing them.

Love-its serve a similar purpose, and are generally accepted as a relative rating system. Suggestions for ratings have in general been related to love-its. It's a perfectly valid comparison.

thats sort of like adding a "hate-it" button next to the "love-it" button.

Not friendly.

Re: A new user friendly 1-5 star rating system.

Come on, seriously?  People's feelings?  THERES MORE IMPORTANT THINGS THAN TRYING TO KEEP EVERYONE FROM BEING EVEN SLIGHTLY OFFENDED, WHICH ISN'T EVEN POSSIBLE!
The 1-5 star rating system would be much more accurate and useful than the love it system, it maybe wouldn't revolutionize anything, but it would help
-Improve the front page
-Improve the search engine
-If we were going to add a related projects tab, it would help with that.
And if the worry is hurting the feelings of new scratchers, remember it's easy to comment saying you don't like they're project, therefore hurting their feelings.  So it's hypocritical saying you can comment saying you don't like their projects (even respectfully) or flag their project, but giving them a low rating is off-limits for some reason.  And honestly, if someone is making nothing but "I quit" and "Spongebob Poop" projects, and someone gives them 1 star and they actually do quit, is that really a bad thing?  Maybe, but... think about it.

Not friendly.

There is a hate it button, it's called Flagging
