Are you getting error messages when you try to upload to the Scratch site? For example, "A primitive has failed."
Here are the reasons we've found so far. If you have had problems and then solved them, please post your solutions!
Here are the solutions we know of so far:
1. File too big (Solution: Extras menu > compress sounds, compress images)
2. Internet connection too slow and times out (Solution: make file smaller, if that doesn't work, try connecting from a different computer or connection or web browser)
3. Proxy server getting in the way (Solution: Try an Internet connection that does not go through a proxy server. For those trying to configure a Proxy/Firewall uploads are done on port 80 via HTTP).
4. Wrong username and password. (Solution: Try logging into Scratch website to make sure username and password are correct.)
5. Website "hiccup" - (Solution: Try again later).
6. Security software (Solution: Try a different computer or different settings on security software.)
7. Vista profile (Solution: try changing settings or uploading from another profile.)
Many people are reporting issues and we could use your help figuring out the problem!

i tried EVERYTHING AM STILL CANNOT UPLOAD PROJECTS

I need to know how many Mega-bites a scratch project can hold, because I'm making a project that is pretty much all photos. I'm afraid I won't be able to share it, or others may not be able to view my project.

If the project is not going to be shared on the web, then it is only limited by your computer.
The whole file can only be 10MB to go on the web.
BUT - Before you send the file to the website, go to Extras -> compress images. This might take some quality away, but your project might fit
Good Luck!

Babygirl, I remember you used to be able to upload your projects without any problem. Has anything changed in the way you connect to the Internet? Are you connecting from a different place? Did you or someone else install new software on your computer? Please contact us directly if you want to get more detailed help. Click on the "Contact Us" link at the bottom and say that I recommended you to contact us and that you have contributed a lot of good projects to the community. Thanks and my sincere apologies for the problems you are having.

what does compress mean?

whats the limit of costumes on scratch? :p

"compress" means "to make smaller by squeezing"
In the case of Scratch, you can make projects smaller by leaving out some detail in the sounds and images. The option for doing this is in menu that you get when pressing the "extras" button.

Caboose: I saw you were able to upload two projects already. I assume it was a temporary problem, maybe your network or the server were too slow at the moment you tried.

for some reason sometimes when i upload a project it says script too big even though i only got 1 script with 4 blocks i just want to put a song on scratch.
The number of scripts or sprites typically doesn't matter, but music takes up a lot of space. You should consider cutting the song in half and don't forget to go to extras to compress sound and images.

Hi, i tried to upload my share my project and received a "Failed:Unknown error" message. Can't seem to get aorund it. My file size is small (my mum checked) and our internet connection seems to be working fine. Thank you!

Strange. Could you try again with an empty project? We have not been able to know exactly why this happens but it does seems to be related to the network connection or the load on the website.

Hi everyone,
just found 'scratch' on the web and I love it! Really looking forward to using it with the kids in my school. Problem with uploading similar to above...it seems to start ok, then freezes...the 'progress bar' get to the 'nn' in 'Connecting' on the upload screen, then stops.
file size is 57kb and its 11.45am here in the UK. I've looked at compressing the file (i presume i compress both the image and sounds) and i've tried to set up a specific project area on the scratch website. It's trying to upload to scratch.mit.edu.
I will try again later, but any other suggestions?
thanks!

Sorry about that. Just try again. We've been having performance issues on our server. Things move slowly here when it comes to getting better hardware but we are working on it.
