Re: Future Scratch communication features

I made a suggestion a while back:

http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=8252

I'll see if I can make a project about it...

Andres put it onto his "big to do list for scratch"  big_smile  but I'd like some feedback if possible  big_smile

for instance, for private messaging, the first thing that comes to mind is much easier cyber-bullying.  already with open communication, cyber-bullying has happened.

This is something that bugs me. Whenever someone suggests private messaging, the issue come up about cyber-bullying. Every time, this comes to my mind:

"Wait a minute" I think. "Can't you make it like comments, except only you can see them?"
"In fact, why don't you just take all the filtering and flagging scripts into the private message system? And if there's some way the person gets around that, you can still use the 'contact us' link."

In reality, PM'ing is really not as bad as you envision it to be. If you really feel that's bad, then what about plain commenting?

One thing that would make that easier would be if you could send other people projects without posting them.

Maybe you could attach  the files with your messages...*WINK*

Anyway, I got nothing new.

Adding of the "inbox" tab and messaging system:

PROS:
- Can message other users
- Ask private questions/feedback about a particular project

CONS:
- Cyberbullying
- Pedos...........

Jamie why not make it so you can block people from messaging you if you want? Won't that be one of the main things to do?

For the cons, I've already posted a counter to that whole shebang. Read it, because it really gets the point across.

So this is a post that can go nowhere... It has been done so the Website editor put it on his "to-do" list but now what? We just have to wait  neutral

it's a 2D engine and won't be made into 3D!!! If you really want 3D then download Alice( www.Alice.org ) and use that and then you will quit postting on the wrong topic! > smile

Re: Future Scratch communication features

i think it would be nice if scratch made a new varible option called webscratch.
It could allow the user to make the project so multiple users over the internet could play it against each other. Then you could pick a group to join and it could list the usernames of the users in that group!  wink    [blocks]<{  }>[/blocks]

Oh but you can, just upload the .sb somewhere.
If you have a Mac, just shove it into your iDisk and post a link.

1--- Well, where? It'd be easier (UI-wise, not developing-wise) to connect the file to scratch and the certain user without making it public.
2--- I'm much more of a PC person and even though I do own a mac, I have no idea what an iDisk is.

Do you not have "iDisk" in your Finder's sidebar?

In the "Web" folder, you can store stuff online at web.me.com/(user)/path/to/file.

OH RIGHT but you need MobileMe.

Just use Mediafire or something.

The fact that I don't have either iDisk or MobileMe is backed up with the fact that I barely use macs to begin with.

The mediafire suggestion sill goes against the idea that the secret sharing of projects for a collab or something should stay inside the Scratch website. My idea is that leaking portions of a (secret-sort of) collab could lead to ruining the final product or plagiarism of ideas. This idea would go back with the idea of making collaboration projects with other scratchers (that you cannot meet in person, ideally).

You need to use WYSIWYG editor.
